Description

The Organ Recovery Surgeon is responsible for the surgical recovery of donor organs for transplantation and/or research in the operative setting. This position manages the operative environment in a manner that facilitates the recovery of all suitable organs for transplantation, and is consistent with the core purpose and core values of the organization. Also, this position, in collaboration with the organ recovery surgical staff, is instrumental in directing the flow of activity including donor hospital staff, and others, who participate in the recovery process. Collaborates within the organization and with external resources to develop and promote practices that increase the number of cadaveric organs recovered for transplantation. In the absence of the Vice President and Medical Director, may be asked to serve as the Medical Director designee. At all times, the Organ Recovery Surgeon is expected to support LifeShare in achieving its core purpose of saving lives by increasing donation and transplantation in Oklahoma.

Qualifications

  1. A Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), board certified in general surgery with a current licensure, having five or more years of experience in organ recovery and transplantation, medical management of organ donors and/or in critical care.
  2. Thorough knowledge of clinical, laboratory, and regulatory standards and procedures.
  3. The ability to work effectively with a broad range of medical professionals.
  4. Thorough knowledge and understanding of organ preservation technology
  5. Well-developed interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with all management, supervisors, and staff. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  6. Proven ability to lead a team, coordinate internal and external resources and achieve measurable results against goals.
