About the AMA and Job:  

Since 1924, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has protected the future of motorcycling and promoted the motorcycle lifestyle. We are active in all areas of racing, recreational riding, advocacy and heritage preservation. We have more than 200,000 members from all motorcycling backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common: the search for freedom on two wheels. 

The AMA is seeking an enthusiastic, organized multitasker and balancer of big-picture, Event and Program Manager. The successful candidate will oversee and organize events that will have an impact on our members and support the AMA mission. The candidate will be able to ensure events are successful and cost-effective, paying attention to details like logistics, budget, time constraints and more. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful events, along with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.  

Job Description:  

The AMA Membership Event & Program Manager will be responsible for managing, expanding and improving AMA members’ engagement and positive experience with the organization through event management, volunteer program management and growth, membership programs, and industry partnerships.  

This position reports to the Director of Membership Marketing and Services and has two direct reports. The Membership Event & Program Manager will serve as the point person across departments for AMA signature events as well as plan, support and design the AMA’s presence at other high-profile motorcycling events and rallies.  

With the support of the Riding Program Developer and the Program and Volunteer Specialist, this position will support and grow the AMA’s volunteer program and recreational riding activities. Additionally, the Membership Event and Program Manager will work closely with the Business Development Manager to identify opportunities to provide value to and engage with AMA Business Members.  

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Event management 

  • First contact for event venue/organizer coordination 

  • Contract Negotiation 

  • Logistics and planning 

  • Internal event project management across departments 

  • Booth or venue design production and execution 

  • Budget tracking and reporting 

  • Event development  

  • Assist in developing event goals 

  • Develop best practices for volunteer management to support event goals  

  • Track event performance to goal 

  • Volunteer program 

  • Along with Program and Volunteer Specialist, supervise management of volunteer program  

  • Develop efficient management of volunteer sign up and organization on-site at events 

  • Develop consistent communication with volunteers to keep engagement high 

  • Recreational riding activity development and analysis  

  • Along with the Riding Program Developer serve as first contact for rec organizers for support outside of charter and sanction processing 

  • Support organizer needs and contract deliverables in partnership with [Joe’s position] and marketing staff 

  • Growth and development of program in partnership with [Joe’s Position], with a focus on strengthening the organizer value proposition  

  • Business member program  

  • Work closely with Business Development Manager to identify opportunities to involve AMA Business Members in events  

  • Communicate opportunities for engagement with AMA Business Members to Business Development Manager and work together to create innovative programs or improve existing programs  

  • Ancillary membership programs 

  • Supervise management of ancillary membership programs through Program and Volunteer Specialist 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):  

  • Vendor Relationship Management 

  • Proven Budget Management 

  • Project Management with the ability to manage multiple projects and experience using Ghant Charts 

  • Logistics Planning and Management 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Time Management with the ability to prioritize  

  • Ability to think critically and strategically to solve issues and prevent future issues 

  • Excellent computer skills including databases / spreadsheet 

  • Knowledge and Experience with the following software preferred: MemberSuite or another association management software platform, NetResults, Formsite, Jotform, Google products including Google Classroom, Docs and Forms, and Office 365 as well as a general comfort level learning new software. 

  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; little/no strain; standing, walking, sitting 

  • Environment: inside; some minor discomforts, outside; exposed to dust, fumes, noise 

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in event marketing/management or related field. 

  • 3-4 years of professional experience with a portfolio of successful events 

  • 1-2 years in a management role with a minimum of 2 direct reports. 

  • Position based in Pickerington, Ohio
