About Benetech

Benetech is a nonprofit dedicated to reducing social and economic inequity in partnership with the communities that we serve through software for social good. Benetechs initiatives are transforming how students, jobseekers, and older adults across the globe read, learn, and work. Benetech believes that access to information is a human right, and no person should encounter barriers to education, literacy, or employment due to differences or disability. We are the developer of Bookshare, the worlds largest digital library with over one million accessible books available in 94 countries and over 60 languages. People at Benetech believe strongly in its mission, and we work hard to embody our Truths each day.

Attracting candidates from all backgrounds

Our users come from all kinds of communities, and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes our organization stronger in delivering social impact. We encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply, including people of color, veterans, LGBTQ+ people and people with disabilities.

Research shows that women and people from underrepresented groups often only apply to jobs if they meet all of the qualifications. We know there are great candidates who might not check all of these boxes or who possess important skills we haven’t thought of. If that’s you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.

The Opportunity

Benetech seeks an individual who enjoys thinking creatively about partnerships that can build solutions to benefit students. The Program Officer will craft a strategic proposal for integrating one-on-one and/or group tutoring into Bookshare services. This strategy will evaluate the effectiveness of combining tutoring with accessible school curriculum and supplemental materials to help students continue to work at grade level while recovering skills and information that they might have missed over the last two years of the pandemic.

The Program Officer will support the implementation of the strategic proposal by initiating and forming relationships with content development and tutoring organizations that will help propel the strategy into action. As a leader in the development and delivery of accessible reading materials, Benetech is in a unique position to work with other organizations focused on helping students, particularly those with disabilities, recover from months of missed learning.
