Summary

The Resident Assistant (RA) role is a vital and dynamic position within AiG housing. The RA supports the Resident Life Manager (Resident Life Manager) by being responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of their assigned portion of housing. The position requires the RA to live in their assigned building throughout the term of their appointment. The RA’s primary responsibilities are to ensure their assigned building and residents are safe; that the building is functioning well; and that their residents are active and engaging with others in the AiG community. The RA must communicate with the Resident Life Manager about needs and concerns regarding their assigned building. This includes but is not limited to maintenance or housekeeping needs; moderate to serious conflicts between residents; events and programs; and move-in / move-out statuses of residents.

This position will allow one to significantly impact others through a service mindset centered on making an eternal difference. Responsibilities

  • Promote the mission and standards of Answers in Genesis.

  • Create a SERVE culture environment in all work done.

  • Approach all tasks with a second-mile mindset.

  •  Prioritize personal integrity in all interactions and assignments.

  • Attend meetings and communicate regularly with Resident Life Manager.

  • Participate in personal and team development sessions led or overseen by the Resident Life Manager.

  • Attend and complete on-going training relevant to Biblically-based spiritual growth, residence hall management, conflict resolution, and others as assigned by the Resident Life Manager.

  • Be a primary point of contact for residents regarding any needs they may have.

  • As directed by the Resident Life Manager, implement, participate in, and lead social events and spiritual or personal development opportunities for residents.

  • The RA is expected to be an active participant in Residence Life. This includes proactively spending time with residents in your building and keeping up with the Resident Life Teams Group for updates and group communication.

  • The RA should also note that this is an on-call role. As relationship-building opportunities and residence life concerns arise, it is expected that the RA will be the first face of action. If the RA needs assistance and it is not a safety emergency, the RA is required to notify the Resident Life Manager.

  • Support the Resident Life Manager with resident check-in/out, room changes, and administering room condition reports.

  • Assist Resident Life Manager in communicating and enforcing the rules and expectations for living within the ministry housing. Report Violations to Resident Life Manager.

  • Maintain a process for supplying and re-supplying items needed for hall

  • Work in a leadership role building relationships and partnering with the Assistant RAs to build community and ensure a safe environment for residents.

  • And all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

 

Requirements

  • Organized.

  • Leadership-Minded.

  • Gifted in Building Interpersonal Relationships and Prioritization of the Spiritual Welfare of Others

  • Speaking Skills: help communicate safety procedures, manage emotionally charged situations, diffusing conflict, implementing and enforcing rules and expectations for residents.

  • Must agree with and be able to sign our Statement of Faith.

  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Regularly attends a local Bible-believing church.
     

Education & Experience

  • Previous experience in residence life is preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience with crisis management and/or conflict resolution is a preferred but not required.
