Harris County Emergency Services District No. 7 (the Spring Fire Department) is currently looking for a Technology Support Specialist. The Technology Support Specialist, reporting to the Technology Manager, will provide support to department personnel and IT infrastructure (approximately 200 users, 100 devices across 11 locations), as well as support public safety radio equipment, audio-visual equipment, and various in-vehicle technology. The Technology Support Specialist will provide support as part of an on-call rotation, and escalate issues to higher level personnel, or vendors, as needed. Responsibilities:

  • Provide front line technical support to users with hardware and software related issues
  • Maintain department computers, servers, and networking equipment
  • Maintain documentation of work performed in ticketing system
  • Maintain inventory of parts and equipment, documenting as needed
  • Support radio communications infrastructure including handheld and mobile radios
  • Perform work on-site at fire stations, or in vehicles, as needed to resolve issues
  • Participate in on-call technical support rotation to support users after hours
  • Work with leadership and third-party vendors to coordinate support as needed 
Qualifications & Compensation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates must pass a background check, drug screen and physical
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • High school diploma and two years of college or relevant experience in IT
  • Ability to work with users in a professional and positive manner – written, orally, and by phone
  • Strong troubleshooting ability
  • Knowledge of computer hardware (Dell, HP, Lenovo)
  • Knowledge of mobile device hardware and software (Apple iOS)
  • Knowledge of enterprise software and cloud services (Microsoft Windows 10, Server 2019, Office 365)
  • Basic knowledge of networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Meraki) and concepts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in public safety
  • IT related certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, VMware)
  • Knowledge of public safety radio systems (Motorola or Kenwood)
  • Knowledge of in-vehicle computing (ruggedized computers, Cradlepoint modems)
  • Desire to keep current on computing technologies

 

Compensation and benefits:

  • Compensation depending on experience ($45,000-55,000/year)
