Description

The Art of Education University (AOEU) is seeking a full-stack product designer. This person will partner with content and software development teams, to bring insight, user experience, and research forward, turning ideas into working prototypes and scalable design systems. You will also conduct user research to understand how customers are using the product, understand competitive products, and help build a more intuitive and distinguished suite of products. You will be a strategic partner, working across the organization to optimize and enhance the user experience across all of AOEUs products and services.

This position will operate within the Product Division, reporting to the Director of Product Management. The Product Division within AOEU is responsible for instantiating all aspects of AOEUs digital presence. We value data-driven decision-making, human-centric design, and a growth mindset.

POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a remote, full-time, salaried position. This position will report to the Chief Product Officer.

This position is eligible to remote work from the following locations: USA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Apply research, usability tests, and metrics to inform design decisions.

  • Analyze, hypothesize, and test opportunities to enhance the user experience and maximize customer value.

  • Work with Product, Curriculum, and Engineering teams to design simple, elegant, beautiful user experiences and workflows.

  • Coordinate with Product, Curriculum, and Engineering teams to identify product improvement opportunities and translate them into actionable development requirements.

  • Partner with content designers on strategic design principles that unify and amplify the AOEU brand.

  • Work with Design to create illustrations, animations, and other rich experiences.

  • Utilize motion design to bring prototypes to life through animation and micro-interactions.

  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions balancing business strategy while advocating for users to create a holistic experience.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • 5+ years of experience as a UX/UI design across product, web, e-commerce, or application design

  • A diverse portfolio demonstrating both individual and team project work

  • History and understanding of human-centered design, and universal design for learning methodologies

  • Ability to work independently as well as seek mentorship and critique from Product Owners, Curriculum or Engineering Leads

  • Sketch, prototype, create and refine low to high fidelity prototypes from concept to ready-for-engineering

  • Ability to utilize, maintain, and expand our design systems based on current understanding of best practices

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects

  • Ability to quickly learn various technology platforms and new applications with ease and confidence.

  • Strong typography, composition, and illustration skills.

  • Ability to execute creative design solutions while staying on brand.

  • Ability to communicate clearly (oral, written, and video) the thinking behind design choices.

  • Organization and project management skills.

  • Ability to recognize stakeholder needs and modify strategies to meet those needs.

  • Comfortable understanding of HTML / CSS, and other technical frameworks.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university therefore 95-98% of ones time will be on or using technology.

  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.

  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

The Process

For most roles, the process is as follows:

  • Step 1: ~30 minute phone interview with hiring manager

  • Step 2: Round 2 packet & Interview

    • Given that this role works remotely, we want to see how you would work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges you might come across through a day-in-the-life. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment which will then be used to guide a ~1 hour follow-up Zoom interview with 1-2 stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy for this role, as it's important for both of us to get a glimpse of how you would handle a day in the life of this role.

  • Step 3: Follow-up interview

    • For certain managerial or high-collaboration roles, you may be asked to participate in a final Zoom interview.
