Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region is currently seeking an energetic Books Assistant Coordinator for Julia’s Café & Books.  This individual would be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations on the Books Department, which includes providing excellent customer service in person, on the phone and to our on-line customers.  In addition, this individual will be engaged in maintaining and organizing incoming book and media donations from our donations dock as well as organizing and managing media inventory, including on-line. 

 

This is a part-time position working 25 hours per week in our Wendover location on a rotating Monday through Saturday schedule.

 

Pay range: starting at $12.50/hour

 

PTO provided for part-time team members.  Flexible spending accounts are available plus a Retirement Plan with an employer match, up to 3%.

 

Job Description

 

Basic Functions:  Maintain and organize all incoming book donations; assist with book drive processes; assist with online department and training of new volunteers. 

 

Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the Books Department
  • Assist with volunteer retention
  • Assist with recruiting volunteers by communicating with Habitat Charlotte Volunteer Services team
  • Assist with managing book department online inventory
  • Communicate and provide excellent customer service in person, on the phone and to online customers
  • Maintain and organize incoming donations from the donation dock
  • Assist with managing media inventory
  • Be an effective team member when working with staff and volunteers, ensuring the engagement and motivation of others
  • Demonstrate a positive and respectful attitude when interacting with employees, customers, donors, volunteers and the public
  • Ensure a meaningful volunteer experience
  • Represent Habitat in a positive, professional manner to all donors, customers and others you come in contact with
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for customers, employees and volunteers
  • Operate a cash register periodically, as needed
  • Ability to read, count and accurately complete reports and all end of day documentation
  • Regular and reliable job attendance
  • Adhere to schedule
  • Maintain a presentable appearance, including Julia’s appropriate attire
  • Ability to adhere to Habitat’s Code of Conduct policies and other policies
  • Ability to drive company vehicle on a periodic basis
  • Dependable transportation to work

Education/Skills:          

  • Customer Service experience
  • Retail Experience, preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Basic computer and internet knowledge
  • Valid driver's license for at least five years (excluding a learners permit or foreign license)
  • Driving records must meet the standards defined by Habitat Charlotte Region’s policies and insurance carriers
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and push up to 50lbs unassisted
  • Ability to push or pull 1,000 pounds with a pallet jack
  • Ability to become forklift certified and operate a forklift on a regular basis
  • Ability to climb steps to forklift cab
  • Ability to work varied hours/days, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed

External Interactions:            Customers, Volunteers, Donors and Homeowners

Level of Authority:                 

  • Require minimal supervision
  • Report to Julia’s Café & Books Manager
  • Demonstrate training and leadership to volunteer groups       

Estimated Time Commitment:    25 hours/week
