Volunteer Position Description

SUMMARY:

The USOPM volunteer program allows participants to give their time and lend their voices to further the Olympic and Paralympic movements as well as the mission and vision of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum. Will be trained for all positions, but may be able to pick a specialty.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Special Events

Provide guests with a positive impression of the USOPM by offering world-class guest service. Assist event staff with setup, execution, and breakdown of special events

  • Help with event set up and breakdown
  • Help with event registration, arrival process
  • Serve as human arrows, answer questions
  • Storytelling and assistance in the galleries

Group Tours

Provide a rewarding educational experience by leading students and groups on tours through the museum

  • Assist with bus unloading, loading, and parking
  • Distribute credentials and lanyards
  • Provide tours
  • Group walkthroughs to keep group visits on time

Museum Programming

Responsible for staffing “out of the ordinary” museum shifts that delve deeper into the OLY/PARA movements on a guest facing level

  • Staff programming activations 
  • Serve as human arrows, answer questions
  • Distribute guest enhancement materials 
  • Storytelling in the galleries 
  • Athlete meet & greets
  • Artifact Demonstrations (additional training provided)

Marketing Ambassador

Responsible for personifying and championing the USOPM in the real world through word-of-mouth marketing tactics

  • Staffing marketing activations
  • Distribute marketing materials
  • Invite activation attendees to visit the museum
  • Facilitate on-the-go artifact demonstrations and photo ops (additional training provided)

Volunteer Requirements

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be an outgoing individual who enjoys guest interactions 
  • Maintain an active USOPM membership (special Volunteer Membership level offered)
  • Pay one-time uniform fee
  • Commit to a minimum availability requirement (volunteers must be available for two (2), three-hour shifts per month)
    • Actual hours may vary due to museum programming & hours
  • Pass a personality screening
  • Pass a background check

Volunteers must be able to meet the physical demands of the job:

  • Remains mobile for approximately 3 hours a day
  • Stoops, bends, reaches, and lifts occasionally throughout the shift
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to work outside
