Position Purpose

The Category Specialist provides the retailer with organization, calibration, and utilization of factual data to provide a more profitable cooler presentation at retail. Additionally, the Specialist will physically execute the reset by disassembling and assembling the cold box and re-aligning back stock.  

 

 Essential Functions:

  • Attendance 
  • Safely maneuver cases and kegs
  • Ability to safely lift 160 lbs without accommodations
  • Remain compliant with drug, alcohol, and motor vehicle policies 
  • Maintain work productivity over differing conditions including but not limited to temperature and order quantity 
  • Adhere to all state and company policies and procedures

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Capture data, measure coolers to optimize space and produce images at retail (scan the cold box and develop the set schematic). Consult with retailer and evaluate the opportunities in the cold box.
  • Develop professional and impactful category management presentations for assigned retail accounts.
  • Synthesize channel intelligence and analytical insights into retail account-specific fact-based presentations.
  • Drive volume and profit through increased distribution and shelf space aligned to HCB/Supplier standards.
  • Effectively implement agreed-upon shelf rests. Physically realign shelves as well as cooler back stock while executing quality of service in accounts including rotation, stocking shelves, and organizing products.
  • Create Backdrops (reverse view schematic) and hang at the account no later than 24hrs after completing the reset.
  • Formally check-in with an account within 2 weeks of completing a reset and conduct a business review recap within 6 months of competing a reset
  • Utilize and fill out weekly pre-planners and update reset tracker spreadsheet with results from each reset
  • Share category management best practices both within team and with retail accounts.
  • Meet supplier-specific shelf management goals via the Specialist variable income program (MBOs).
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer rapport.
  • Maintains proper upkeep of company vehicle and observes safe driving habits when operating all company vehicles.
  • Understands and complies with all local, state, and federal regulations along with all HCB policies and procedures.
  • Completes monthly reports, vehicle mileage reports and special assignments at the request of the Market Development Manager. Submits all reports on time and in a professional business format.

 

Technical Skills

This position will be required to operate the HCB computer system to be able to produce any type of sales report and tracking information needed.  In addition, the position must be proficient with the following software: JDA Space Planning, Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel.

This position is considered a leader in the HCB organization.  As such, the Category Specialist will always maintain a professional appearance and attitude.  Position will be asked to perform duties “above and beyond the normal” from time to time and expected to cheerfully perform such duties.  This Position is expected to be a positive role model for other HCB employees.
