ABOUT THE POSITION:

This is an individual contributor role that is a strong utility player within the back-office Accounting and Finance group with a heavy emphasis on core accounting activities, operational analysis around gross margin transactions and reporting.

This role reports directly to the Corporate Accounting Manager and will work closely with the Accounting leadership team to ensure the accurate documentation/recording of all financial activities. This includes, but is not limited to, derivative activity within the financial statements, with a strong emphasis on the comprehension of underlying transactions within the organizations operational and financial reporting systems. Additionally, this role holds responsibility for the preparation of various complex financial analyses related to the organizations operations as well as the monthly financial statements.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Gross Profit Reporting and Analysis
    • Responsible for the preparation of divisional gross profit analysis:
      • Understanding of operational transactions, including derivative transactions, to support financial reporting and analysis
      • Ability and willingness to investigate and understand atypical transactions and their impact on gross profit
      • Initiate and lead periodic review of divisional daily gross profit analysis with business personnel
      • Develop and maintain continuous communication with key operational personnel who impact the monthly gross profit outcomes
    • Responsible for preparation of detail supporting gross profit schedules related to various contract programs and customer categories.
    • Work closely with Risk team to understand Marked to Market (MtM) balances affecting gross profit transactions and reporting
    • Manage and reconcile derivative balance sheet accounts
    • Responsible for generating and analyzing monthly gross profit margins by division / product, including creation of journal entries needed for gross margin accounts. Will also lead month end discussion and interpretation of results with operational managers.
  • Responsible for the preparation of the monthly financials and post-closing reconciliation and analysis of various balance sheet accounts
    • Preparation / coordination of monthly financial presentation for Executive Management Financial Meetings
    • Develop / Program system generated financial reports, including comparisons to budgets with responsibility of full automation of monthly financial reporting
  • Support yearly audit and review of footnote disclosures
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual bank reporting as required
  • Participate in the development of the annual operating plan and budget process and work with the various departments/divisions to compile monthly rolling forecasts
  • Actively assist with other departmental and organizational initiatives as needed
  • Perform special projects and ad hoc analyses as requested by the Accounting and Finance leadership team, including but not limited to responding to formal Compliance and other requests for related analytical review.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required with a minimum 7 years accounting work experience
  • A high degree of personal initiative and self-motivation is required
  • Ability to demonstrate strong understanding of financial statement presentation
  • Strong financial reporting background, accounting systems experience and understanding of financial analysis and financial modeling, which includes the appreciation for understanding of underlying data
  • Strong computer skills with significant concentration in Excel and PowerPoint Management Reporter and Power BI reporting is a plus
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills required
  • Willingness to work and learn in different areas and assume responsibility for complex accounting areas must be able to demonstrate the ability to bridge the gap between operational intent of transactions and the financial reporting outcomes/results
  • Ability to effectively maintain relationships across all levels of the organization (operations, Risk, back office) a positive and flexible attitude is required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to see the organizational big picture with ability to understand and interpret details of underlying processes
  • Ability to effectively work with external auditors when needed
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, public accounting experience is a plus
  • Right Angle and Microsoft Great Plaines experience is a plus
  • Awareness and familiarity with Dodd-Frank compliance is a plus
