Job Description:

Special Olympics Northern California is seeking an enthusiastic individual to be responsible for promoting athlete growth within Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo Counties. This is a management position, not a coaching position. Start new teams, manage existing teams, recruit and supervise coaches, organize competition opportunities, and ensure all athletes receive a quality training & competition program. In addition, this position will be the lead on specific program initiatives for the Sports program.

Essential Responsibilities:

 

Sports Management

  • Recruit, train, motivate, and support Team Managers and Head Coaches
  • Communicate with Team Managers and Head Coaches on an ongoing basis regarding program-wide sports policies, rules, and procedures; SONC resource allocation to area programs; and the impact of program costs on local fundraising revenue
  • Develop strategies for new-athlete recruitment and retention to share with Team Managers and Head Coaches
  • Attend local programs practices
  • Assist with integration of health, wellness and fitness initiatives with local sports programming
  • Develop coach and volunteer recruitment strategies to be implemented by the local program
  • Conduct regular strategic planning meetings with Team Managers and Head Coaches
  • Ensure all athletes and coaches have current applications on file

 

Event Management

  • Set up competition program that meets the standards set forth by SONC:
  1. Secure competition venue, including all needed contracts and insurance coverage
  2. Secure all game officials and/or judges
  3. Secure all event volunteers, including Games Management Team day-of volunteers.
  4. Create and provide all necessary paperwork and collateral for competition
  5. Provide all necessary equipment and venue supplies for competition
  6. Provide a safe and fun competition environment

Program Initiatives

  • Develop additional sport opportunities for athletes, including at-home resources and athlete-clinic opportunities
  • Enhance competition opportunities for team and individual sports
  • Athlete recruiting program via Regional Centers for targeted areas
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • A passion for our mission of promoting inclusivity for people of all ages with intellectual disabilities through year-round sports programming
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong presentation skills
  • Solid computer skills MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Suite; experience with relational databases, such as Salesforce is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tactful and diplomatic communication skills and the ability to de-escalate tense situations
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to manage ones time effectively to prioritize and to complete diverse assignments concurrently when working on a deadline
  • Ability to work independently
  • Flexibility - managing competing demands and adapting to changes in the work environment
  • Commitment to providing our athletes, community partners and other stakeholders with excellent support and service
  • Experience in video editing and composition a plus
  • Bachelors degree and/or two years equivalent/related experience required

We offer an inclusive, casual work environment. This position requires local/regional travel and evening/weekend work. Access to a vehicle is a must.

 

Salary: $62,400/year
