JOB DESCRIPTION:

Overview:

An Instructor is someone who leads participating climbers through the fundamentals of climbing, including but not limited to, top rope and lead belay. Instructors are patient, understanding, and adaptable to the climbing needs of each climber while teaching risk mitigation techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Have a high level of product knowledge of gym offerings including but not limited to Day Use, Multi Day Use, Memberships for Sender One, Sender City offerings, Groups & Parties offerings, Youth Program offerings, Yoga & Fitness offerings, and ongoing community & gym events;
  • Assist and communicate with fellow team members and other departments such as Programs, Customer Experience, Facilities, Groups & Parties, and Routesetting wherever necessary;
  • Communicates operational, customer service, risk management, and staff issues with the Instruction Coordinator & Programs Manager;
  • Provides an effective learning experience for each climber;
  • Ensures participants are utilizing the proper equipment during the class;
  • Offer support, guidance, positive energy, and encouragement to all instruction participants;
  • Manage inherent risks involved with climbing;
  • Maintain all current policies and procedures concerned with customer facing cleanliness and sanitation including but not limited to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Take initiative to help the team progress to our shared purpose - discover ourselves and connect with others through climbing.
PROFILE & EXPERIENCE:

Profile:

  • Passionate about climbing and instructing;
  • Ability to harness imagination and find novel approaches to shared responsibilities;
  • Ability to learn and grow from each task, challenge, and interaction while seeing them through to the end;
  • Open to receiving and providing feedback, guidance, insight, assistance, and perspective in a professional manner;
  • Work with a team, provide support to fellow team members, share ideas, and earn trust;
  • Take initiative and have the drive to grow professionally.

Industry Experience:

  • Top rope and Lead climbing experience;
  • At Heights/Behind the Wall experience preferred;
  • Knowledge of Google Suite Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive, etc.;
  • Knowledge of Rock Gym Pro software preferred;
  • Knowledge of Basecamp preferred;
  • Experience working with kids preferred;
  • Experience coaching and instructing.

Time Commitment:

  • Must be able to lead at least 2 instruction courses;
  • Must attend the Mandatory All Staff Quarterly meeting.
