Position Summary

The role of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Manager reports to the Director of Revenue Integrity. This position is responsible for managing staff to enhance the clinical documentation process by providing timely concurrent, prospective, and retrospective reviews of health records. This position will address personnel, production, and system issues and are responsible for overseeing and supporting the continued development of the clinical documentation integrity department.  

 

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Organize, direct, and coordinate daily job functions of the inpatient and outpatient clinical documentation integrity departments.
  • Develop and maintain department policies and procedures, productivity standards, and educational and training materials for CDI Specialists.
  • Educate providers and other health care professionals on proper documentation practices to accurately reflect the patient’s health conditions.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of clinical concepts for all body systems to bridge the gap in communication between clinical documentation and coding.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding; including continuous knowledge of quarterly and annual code changes, coding rules and guidelines.
  • Conduct ongoing performance assessment of staff competency and provide timely and appropriate feedback
  • Enforce the use of physician queries, as appropriate
  • Work closely with coding, physicians, other qualified health care providers, clinic staff and other services to assist and/or coordinate in improving clinical documentation.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, required. Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Licensure and Certifications:  RN, BSN, AHIMA credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CDIP or ACDIS credentials CCDS, or CCDS-O
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience in a CDI position, required. Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or management role, required.
