Reporting to the Senior Vice President, General Manager of the Molecular Diagnostics Division, the Head of Market Access is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all aspects of the pricing, reimbursement, and market access strategy across Bio-Techne’s exosome-based diagnostic products and will play a leading role in evolving the company’s managed care position in the market. The primary responsibility is to achieve network coverage with national managed care providers for novel molecular tests. As the Head of Market Access, you will work in close collaboration with leadership of Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Legal, Finance, Regulatory, and Clinical Operations to implement a coordinated sales, training, research, and reimbursement strategy for both existing products and products in the R&D pipeline. You will analyze third party payer coverage and reimbursement in terms of existing and emerging payer policies, utilization management, competitive landscape, trends, and potential barriers to provider and patient access.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and drive the Market Access strategic plan and provide inspirational leadership for the Market Access function to maximize market opportunities for exosome-based tests
  • Lead development and execution of practical strategies to secure optimal reimbursement for the company’s products
  • Build and maintain the Market Access team to develop and implement key components of the reimbursement and market access strategy
  • Establish, manage, and execute strategic business plans, budgets, forecasts, and reporting for Market Access, reflecting clear alignment with Exosome’s organizational goals and objectives
  • Influence R&D study/research efforts by providing subject matter expertise on payor positions regarding medical necessity and clinical utility
  • Oversee the coding, coverage, and payment processes within the United States for all company products and services impacted
  • Negotiate new contracts with third party payers in support of reimbursement strategy
  • Lead implementation of tactical activities required to achieve health economics and reimbursement strategic objectives (e.g., preparation of economic and reimbursement dossiers for payer negotiations, new code applications, customer billing guides, etc.)
  • Advise sales management on reimbursement related strategies
  • Provide expertise on new product launches regarding reimbursement strategy, business plans and healthcare economics
  • Oversee development of sales education on topics of relevance to healthcare economics & business development (e.g., financial feasibility, market analysis as it relates to third party payer reimbursement)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in business or related subject; MBA or other advanced degree is preferred
  • Experience in reimbursement including knowledge of public and private funding streams, coding/coverage/payment, and process for medical policy development and implementation
  • Previous senior management experience including people leadership within healthcare industry
  • Experience negotiating and executing agreements with national and regional insurance carriers
  • Minimum 10-12 years’ experience in Market Access with evidence of success and increasing responsibilities

  • Strong project management abilities to prioritize and schedule multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong interpersonal interaction skills and demonstrable ability to work collaboratively at all levels within the Bio-Techne organization
  • Working knowledge of health care and billing compliance rules and requirements
  • Self-directed and creative
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • High communication proficiency both verbal and written
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management and process management
  • Proficient in the use of standard computer applications and software, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
