Description

General Statement:

This position is responsible for all operations in Craveology, a café, theater concession stand and the North Star Science Store.

Principle duties include: staffing, scheduling and supervising all staff; creating and reviewing detailed financial reports; management of budget and cost controls; F&B and merchandise inventory control. Developing menu items for the café and merchandise assortment for the store.

Selected candidate will ensure all department, OSHA, health department and company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times; and that all guests receive optimal service in a timely, professional and courteous manner. Furthermore, this position will also be responsible for café and store staff development, including coaching, training and disciplinary action, among other duties.

Reports to: Director of Business Operations

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Establish café and store operational and cash handling policies and procedures and ensure that staff correctly adheres to them.
  2. Develop menu/merchandise assortment and determine pricing.
  3. Responsible for managing inventory levels, vendor relations, sourcing new product for café and store.
  4. Responsible for end of month inventory and food cost analysis.
  5. Manage café revenue and expense budget including personnel and operational expenses.
  6. Development, implementation, and execution of staff training programs. 
  7. Develop, update, and maintain all Café and Store Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manuals.
  8. Responsible for interviewing and hiring all café and store staff in accordance with Human Resources policy and procedures.
  9. Responsible for adequate staffing and scheduling of all café and store staff.
  10. Responsible for performance evaluations of café and store staff in accordance with Human Resources policy and procedures.
  11. Responsible for staff development, including coaching and disciplinary action in accordance with Human Resources policy and procedures.
  12. Ensure adequate loss prevention controls in place and that all loss control procedures are being followed.
  13. Ensure guest concerns are addressed in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  14. Attends Manager Meetings and other meetings as required or requested by management or Human Resources.
  15. Must maintain thorough knowledge of emergency plan procedures and ensure staff are trained and kept current of emergency procedures.
  16. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Tools and equipment used to perform this position: food graters, kitchen utensils including knives, coffee/espresso machine, microwave, cash registers, telephone, PC, Microsoft Office Suite, fax, copier, calculator.

Qualifications

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

  • Minimum of three years supervisory management experience in a position responsible for food and beverage (F&B) management, retail operations, customer service, cash handling and staff supervision. Previous experience in a high-volume cafe setting preferred;
  • High school degree or equivalent required. College degree preferred;
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Certified Professional Food Manager card and ABC certification upon hire;
  • Knowledge of Food Safety, CAL-OSHA and OSHA regulations;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent guest service and motivate staff to do the same;
  • Experience in budgeting, F&B and retail inventory management and cost control;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Ability to assign responsibilities, allocate resources and direct corrective action to attain favorable impact;
  • Demonstrated ability to create, prepare, comprehend and troubleshoot complex reconciliation and accounting reports;
  • Advanced computer skills preferred. Intermediate Excel experience a plus;
  • Current CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30-days, if hired;
  • Strong mathematical skills are required to perform cash management procedures and reconciliation;
  • Strong ability to multi-task effectively;
  • Demonstrated attention-to-detail and follow-through required;
  • Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor at all times;
  • Must be able to maintain focus during very busy periods;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Must be able to handle challenging guest relation issues and/or staff issues with diplomacy and tact while maintaining company policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of safety, security, and loss prevention procedures helpful.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include: days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position:

Performs duties without supervision. Supervision needed to discuss non-routine questions or concerns.

Physical Requirements of this Position:

Business Location Presence: This position requires physical presence at the business location during all assigned working hours in order to adequately perform all duties.

Medium Work: Position involves sitting some of the time. Standing and walking are required. Position requires ability to exert minimal force of up to 10 pounds occasionally and minimal force to carry, lift, push, and otherwise move objects frequently.
