What You'll Do

The CATAN Brand Development Director (CBDD) will oversee strategic brand development goal setting, planning, and execution consistent with the CATAN brand vision and mission. The CBDD will manage the CATAN Studio marketing team and report directly to the Head of Studio.

 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee all brand marketing and communications.
  • Coordinate CATAN Studio marketing and communications with the studio’s internal Content and Community teams.
  • Develop, refine, draft, and adjust the annual CATAN Studio marketing budget and coordinate approvals for distribution unit spends on behalf of the CATAN brand.
  • Coordinate CATAN Studio consumer marketing with Asmodee Distribution Units marketing teams.
  • Ensure coordination of CATAN brand development with broader Asmodee pillar brand development.
  • Contribute ideas and guidance for CATAN expansion into mass and value consumer channels.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination with all CATAN brand stakeholders regarding matters of CATAN and Asmodee pillar brand development.
  • Enact and maintain all approved marketing plans for CATAN products, events & initiatives.
  • Identify key audience targets and deliver messaging according to their needs.
  • The CBDD will collaborate on fun, engaging, and effective marketing plans to grow and nurture interest in the CATAN brand, as well as CATAN Studio’s games, events, and promotions.
  • Oversee creation of engaging content for the web, social media, advertising, and other marketing materials. Develop, organize, and present marketing plans across multiple media platforms (Including press releases and social media) for a worldwide market.
  • The CBDD will organize & present plans into clear presentations and pitches to work across multiple business units.
  • Demonstrate to our diverse audience of fans, and fans-to-be, that CATAN is welcoming to all cultures and that we are a part of an international community of players. This work could be in concert with working with parallel teams like community management and organized play.
  • Manage projects with our studio staff. Oversee the development of marketing plans for key products, events, and initiatives.
  • The CBDD will engage, inform, and align multiple partners in support of their projects.
  • The CBDD is responsible for managing and leading cross-team, cross-studio, cross-company, and cross-industry marketing projects.
  • Work directly with key stakeholders, including the sales, marketing, event and management teams of CATAN Studio, Asmodee North America, our Asmodee group partners, Kosmos Verlag, and our other worldwide CATAN localization partners, and (most importantly) our CATAN intellectual property owner (and licensor) CATAN GmbH.
  • Manage relationship and work directly with key contractors including PR and advertising agencies.
  • Research and fully understand new products, events and initiatives in order to develop deep, supportive marketing content.
  • Maintain a collaborative working relationship with Studio leadership, including ongoing meetings and communication, sharing plans, asset gathering, and other activities that promote successful marketing of the CATAN brand and all CATAN Studio products.
  • Plan, attend, and present at key trade, and consumer shows. Booth set-up/tear-down is expected.
  • Physically assemble and warehouse marketing material.
  • Ship approved complimentary game orders.
  • Present at brand management meetings internationally.
  • Oversee and manage the complete editorial calendar for website, advertising, and publicity content for CATAN products.
  • Responsible for timely delivery of high quality content per the schedule, as well as making sure all required approvals have been acquired. Must be on vision, on strategy, and on schedule.
  • Develop a detailed marketing plan and subsequent budget.
  • Provide leadership/motivation and convey the CATAN Studio vision and strategies to the international Asmodee Group marketing teams, including but not limited to Asmodee North America, Asmodee Canada, Asmodee UK, Venross (Asmodee Australia), Asmodee Entertainment, and Asmodee Interactive.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings, scheduling meetings, and other department meetings as needed.
  • All other tasks as directed by management.

What Makes You Successful

Education/Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Creative Writing, or related field (or commensurate market experience).
  • 7-10 years of professional marketing experience.
  • 3+ year of team management experience preferred.
  • Experience in the entertainment industry preferred.
  • Experience in the game industry preferred.
  • CATAN knowledge highly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strategic thinker who is able to see the big picture.
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, especially in the context of empathetic communication.
  • Strong understanding of mass market and hobby consumer messaging
  • Ability to work online and offline in a distributed international environment.
  • Highly desired to be proficient with the use of Adobe Creative Suite. It is required to proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a staff of creative professionals.
  • Must have exceptional skills planning, developing and executing marketing materials. Must know how to write a one-page sell sheet, a press release, and a white paper.
  • Must enjoy a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and frequent high-peak times.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize projects.
  • Must be trustworthy with highly confidential materials.
  • Must be detail oriented and extremely well organized.
  • Significant domestic travel with some international travel required.
  • Some international travel (and thus US Passport) required.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lb. boxes.
