Description

Working for the Energy Solutions division of CHP, the Assistant Field Superintendent supports the supervision, oversight, direction, and training of weatherization crew workers and contract professionals involved in the delivery of home energy conservation. The Assistant Field Superintendent works closely with the Field Superintendent and Senior Manager to schedule work and meet delivery deadlines. To ensure delivery of superior client service, professional and interpersonal skills are vital to this position.  Assistant Field Superintendents must often seek amicable corrective action to satisfy clients and partners. 

Working hours may vary with the project load, but the customary schedule is Monday Thursday, four 10-hour days with a 30-minute lunch break. Regular attendance and punctuality are necessary for success. Daily local travel and frequent out-of-town travel are required, up to 50% of the time, occasional evening, and weekend hours as workload dictates. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support supervising crews, managing contractors and subcontractors, to ensure delivery of quality work, compliance with required Weatherization Assistance Program Standard Work Specifications, and maximize efficiency and effectiveness of Field Operations.

  • Inform decisions related to the application of weatherization services based on applied knowledge of weatherization principles, regulatory agency requirements, building codes, industry best practices, field of study, or combination thereof. 

  • Mentor and train crew members, assisting with skill development and job performance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager or Director of Field Operations.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of residential heating and cooling system components, air sealing, insulation methods, and weatherization techniques.

  • Familiarity with Virginia Weatherization Assistance Program Standard Work Specifications, the Virginia Heating System Manual, and OSHA Health and Safety procedures.

  • Mathematics skills customary to building trades.

  • Ability to instruct others in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials required for duties described.

  • Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with clients regarding the scope of work, and to demonstrate leadership in the resolution of client service challenges that arise.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent required, vocational certifications in Building Construction, Instrumentation, Electricity, or related fields are preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in weatherization assistance or related energy conservation/efficiency services required. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Demonstrated mastery of building trade mathematics skills.

  • Position-related training and certifications such as Building Performance Institute (BPI) - Building Analyst, Heating Specialist, and Envelope Certification, U.S. EPA - Retrofit, Repair and Painting (RRP), U.S. DOE - Weatherization Assistance Program Lead Safe Weatherization (LSW) and ASHRAE 6.2 is preferred.

  • Virginia Master Mechanical License preferred.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record consistent with current CHP insurability guidelines
