Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of homeless youth? Join our team at YSS and become a vital part of our Transitional Living Program. Our program provides a safe and monitored self-sufficient living environment for homeless youth aged 16-21 who lack stable living arrangements due to unsafe family situations. As an intern with the Transitional Living Program, you'll play a crucial role in helping these young individuals gain essential life skills and work towards self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities:

As a Transitional Living Program Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage with our participants and assist them in various aspects of their transitional journey:

  • Support and Teach: Assist homeless youth in completing tasks like job applications, while providing guidance to help them learn the skills necessary for gaining and retaining employment.

  • Goal Setting: Work with transitional aged youth to set and achieve personal goals, fostering their self-sufficiency skills and independence.

  • Supervision and Guidance: Provide supervision during activities like cleaning and ensure a safe and supportive living environment.

  • Intake Assistance: Help new participants settle into their living arrangements, making their transition smoother.

  • Community Resources: Familiarize yourself with local community resources such as food pantries and clothing centers, and assist participants in accessing these services.

  • Collaboration: Work alongside staff to prepare for life skills and budgeting groups, provide support during meetings, and collaborate with case managers, advocates, and youth specialists to ensure participants' needs are met.

  • Donation Drives: Contribute to various donation drives and community events, including Reggie’s Sleep Out and holiday giving programs.

Time Commitment and Training:

  • Minimum of 8 hours per week, providing flexibility to balance your commitments.
  • Bi-monthly meetings with your supervisor to ensure guidance and support.
  • Completion of Mandatory Reporter training and CPR/First Aid training to enhance your skillset.

Qualifications

What youll need

  • Commitment, Collaboration, Compassion, Innovation, Integrity, and a Can Do Spirit.
  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Ability to work collaboratively, independently, and take initiative.
  • Interest in young adults experiencing homelessness, transitional housing programs, and the YSS mission.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • All majors are accepted, but Human Services majors are preferred.
