Saint Andrew's School is seeking an Assistant Director of Strings. Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts, the Assistant Director of Strings will fulfill all duties for Lower School (LS), Middle School (MS), and Upper School (US) Strings classes. This position also provides support for all concerts, organizes some extracurricular Strings events, and teaches sectional instruction and private lessons as appropriate.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Teach for the Grade 4 Strings, Grade 5 Strings, MS Strings, MS Intermediate Strings, and US String Ensemble.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Strings to develop and implement the curriculum, including overseeing repertoire selection.

  • Create Strings course documentation as determined by the Divisional Expectations, working to vertically align curriculum.

  • Conduct and organize String student participation at extracurricular events as directed by the Director of Performing Arts. These may include chapel performances as well as special Admissions or Advancement events.

  • Oversee the selection of US String student leadership positions.

  • Provide sectional instruction as appropriate for all LS, MS, and US Strings.

  • Assist with LS instrument pickup and supervision of LS students during class transitions.

  • Assist with instrument tuning at the start of each class.

  • Photocopy and bind sheet music as assigned by the Director of Strings.

  • Assist with the restoration and organization of Orchestra room and storage areas.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; Master’s degree preferred 

  • At least three years teaching in an independent school or equivalent experience 

  • A willingness to collaborate
