Position Objective:

The Kidder Creek Ranch Hand is responsible for assisting the Wrangler Lead and the Ranch Camp Manager in all things Ranch Camp as assigned to ensure the campers have a safe and engaging Ranch Camp experience in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.

General Qualifications:

The Kidder Creek Ranch Hand is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (MHA) Christian mission, vision, beliefs and standards of conduct. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity, including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the complete care and coordination of all Petting Farm animals and other farm animals not associated with the equine herd. Responsible for all feeding, food pre and inventory, pen cleaning and supervision when guests are visiting the Petting Farm.
  • Assist Wranglers with assigned barn chores
  • Help tack, untack horses and facilitate Tline and guest trail rides
  • Coordinate the weekly set-up and clean-up of the KC Corral including camper food & supplies, equine grooming supplies and additional tack
  • Oversee the daily supplies needed at evening campfire
  • Act as a rotation substitute when needed
  • Act as an extra hand in general when needed at Ranch Camp
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High School Graduate
  • At least 19 years old or 1 year of college experience
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified prior to arriving at camp
  • Current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.
  • If you are 21 or older, you may be asked to drive campers and/or guests as part of your job responsibilities.

Work Experience:

  • Experience and knowledge of horses required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Ability to have a good attitude, be a positive role model.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through, flexible and able to adjust to the challenges of Ranch Camp life and changing job assignments and schedules with short notice.
  • Ability to take direction from the Wrangler Lead and Ranch Camp Manager.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, ability to lift/carry 50 lbs., etc. Requires the ability to see and hear in adverse conditions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have a clean driving record of at least three years, and agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s mission, vision, culture code and standards of conduct.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
