As an Overnight Counselor, your position is the most important, as you will significantly impact our campers, leaving them with an experience that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. You’ll have the opportunity to become a role model and leader through our camp mission and programs.
Although our camp sessions last only 6 to 9 days, your energy, spirit, joy, and passion can positively impact the next generation while creating an unforgettable experience for yourself. The primary role of an overnight counselor is to ensure the safety and well-being of every camper throughout a week of outdoor high adventure while helping create a positive, encouraging, and inclusive environment for all to learn and grow.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise, lead, and support a group of campers (ages 8-12 and 13-16) throughout the camp day activities and during bedtime.
- Ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of campers at all times, including during activities, meals, and rest periods.
- Ensure campers and fellow staff members follow camp rules, guidelines, and expectations.
- Address medical issues, emergencies, incidents, or disturbances appropriately and in a timely manner (including administering first aid when necessary).
- Lead or assist in various camp activities such as team-building exercises, group games, swimming, hiking, ziplining, rock climbing, kayaking, and repelling.
- Encourage self-growth, relationship building, participation, and teamwork throughout all activities.
- Keep campers engaged and having fun while ensuring their safety at all times.
- Use guidance and discipline strategies to address any behavior issues or conflicts that may arise amongst the campers, continuing to promote our positive and respectful camp atmosphere.
- Collaborate and communicate with other counselors and directors to create the most unforgettable and magical camp experience.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model by contributing to building a camp environment that is supportive, nurturing, and inclusive so all campers and staff feel respected and valued.
