Position Objective:

Family Camp Middle School Counselors are responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to junior high campers and provide campers’ safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth, in order to lead them one step closer to Jesus, in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values.

General Qualifications:

The Family Camp Middle School Counselor is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating, and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for all campers
  • Mentor male and female students, helping students grow in their faith by inviting them to into all aspects of the programming
  • Lead a daily small group of students reinforcing the daily objectives of the youth program.
  • Work alongside campers aiding in service and work activities to provide leadership, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Responsible for the welfare of campers through guidance and supervision of Day Campers
  • Participate in bonus jobs with other departments on the mountain.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

* Summer staff, exempt.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate.
  • College experience, preferred 2 years.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

  • Prior or current experience working with junior high students.
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferred previous experience working with junior high students.
  • Love for youth of all ages is essential; capable of providing strong Christian role model.
  • Ability to articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One on One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provideproof of eligibility to work in the United States.
