Equine Specialist - CMW

JOB SUMMARY

Provide year- round equestrian program for user groups, and provide Girl Scout program support and resources to volunteers, girls, and parents, while maintaining quality customer service

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, develop, and assist direct equestrian program and manager.
• Recruit, train, and supervise weekend and seasonal equestrian staff and volunteers.
• Plan and conduct mid-week and weekend horseback riding opportunities for Girl Scout groups.
• Help to coordinate the care and feeding of horses owned or leased by the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.
• Support the council’s mission statement, goals, and objectives.
• Uphold the standards of program set forth by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camping Association and the Certified Horsemanship Association.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated proficiency in horsemanship, including riding, grooming, and basic veterinary care.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in riding instruction, and barn management.
• Ability to walk long distances on rough terrain for long periods of time and able to carry, lift and/or transfer up to 50 pounds.
• College education desirable.
• Microsoft Office proficiencies (including PowerPoint, Access, Excel)
• Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as volunteers.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience around horses.
• First Aid/CPR or Higher (WFA, WFR) certified or willing to obtain.
• Ability to walk long distances on rough terrain for long periods of time and able to carry, lift and/or transfer up to 50 pounds.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Willingness or ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
