Position Objective:

Day Camp Counselor/Worship Specialist assists the Family Ministries Children’s Intern in the oversight and leadership of the Day Camp worship program to nurture spiritual growth through worship as well as is responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary youth, safeguarding camper’s safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values.

General Qualifications:

The Day Camp Counselor/Worship Specialist is aMinisterialposition.Ministerialstaff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating, and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Lead, organize, and manage the Day Camp worship program including worship sets for Day Camp Band, Tuesday Morning Songs, and Luminaria
  • Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with the Day Camp team in all aspects of discipleship; implementing Day Camp curriculum within small and large groups.
  • Responsible for the welfare of campers through guidance and supervision of Day Campers
  • Implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum, as instructed by the Leadership Team.
  • Lead and assist in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
  • Share in the responsibility of keeping camp areas, including workspaces and supplies, clean and orderly.
  • Participate in bonus jobs with other departments on the mountain.
  • Attend a weekly meeting with the Family Ministries Children’s Intern and the Leadership Team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience with Day Camp is preferred.
  • Prior experience leading worship preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to play guitar and able to lead students in musical worship in a relevant and interactive manner.
  • Ability to coordinate, teach, and instruct fellow musicians.
  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
  • Ability to articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Possible opportunities to work with campers with special needs through our One-on-One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provideproof of eligibility to work in the United States.
