Position Objective:

Day Camp Counselors are responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary youth, providing campers safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and values.

General Qualifications:

The Day Camp Counselor is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading Mount Hermon’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Help kids encounter God and others by partnering with the Day Camp team in all aspects of discipleship; implementing Day Camp curriculum within small and large groups.
  • Responsible for the welfare of campers through guidance and supervision of Day Campers
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for all campers
  • Carry out a variety of camp activities and curriculum, as instructed by the Leadership Team.
  • Lead and assist in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including workspaces and supplies clean and orderly.
  • Participate in bonus jobs with other departments on the mountain which will be assigned at a later date.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • Capable of providing children with a strong Christian role model.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s mission, vision, values, and commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • May be required to work with campers with special needs through our One-on-One program in assisting them physically, cognitively, and emotionally as they engage the camp experience in a way best suited to their individual needs.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provideproof of eligibility to work in the United States.
