Position Objective:

The Lifeguard Lead will provide instruction, supervision, and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff involved in all water-based activities at Mount Hermon in a professional and productive manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Lifeguard Lead is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (MHA) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to provide a safe environment (physically, mentally, and emotionally) for guests to enjoy aquatic activities.
  • Provide supervision of aquatic activities at Mount Hermon.
  • Accountable to upholding and enforcing pool rules to ensure safety of all using the pool.
  • Responsible to provide swim lessons
  • Responsible to assist Supervisor and other lifeguards with daily, weekly, and monthly pool maintenance.
  • Responsible to maintain, document and report any damage to operating equipment and facilities.
  • Perform basic pool chemistry testing to ensure levels are correct for daily swim
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Summer Staff and Part Time Lifeguards

* Summer staff, exempt.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate.
  • College experience required, 2-3 years preferred.
  • Must have current Lifeguard Certifications completed prior to start date.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • WSI certification completed prior to start date

Work Experience:

  • Prior lifeguard experience is required.
  • Experience teaching youth and young adults new skills and managing risk in an aquatics setting.
  • At least one year of experience as a MHA Summer Staff is preferred.

  • Love for youth of all ages is essential; demonstrates qualities of a strong Christian role model.
  • Ability to work with and lead a team with good judgment and decision making abilities.
  • Punctual and responsible.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all applicable lifesaving techniques.
  • Exhibits great interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
  • Observant and attentive.
  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently to required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Requirements/Skills:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Will be assigned a secondary role. The secondary roles may include, but are not limited to: Early Morning Lap Swim, Fountain Shifts, and Dining Hall Shifts.
  • Will be involved in Summer Staff programming as assigned by Chief of Summer Staff.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance
