Founded in 1876, the Appalachian Mountain Club is the oldest conservation, education and recreation organization in the United States.  The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers and trails of the Appalachian region.  The AMC encourages the involvement of all people in its mission and activities, through its membership, programs, policies, and procedures.  

 

Beyond Maine’s bustling seaports and crowded resort towns lies an untarnished wilderness full of mountain landscapes. Nestled here, in the 100 Mile Wilderness, sit three off the grid Wilderness Lodges owned and operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. Enjoy endless summer outdoor recreation activities while living and working remotely. Provide warm, well-rounded meals and hospitality to guests vacationing at one location or adventuring between lodges. What you’ll be doing:

  • Work independently to prepare all meals and snacks as scheduled and instructed according to pre-planned menus and established meal times.
  • Welcome and assist visitors and guests in a positive manner; respond to any problems or special requests with a professional demeanor.
  • Clean, sanitize and inspect all areas maintained by the Kitchen Staff on a daily basis
  • Meet Maine Health Codes and Standards by always maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, dry-storage, refrigerator, and freezers. Meet updated cleaning and PPE requirements related to COVID-19
  • Actively promote and provide up to date information on the services and programs of the AMC and encourage membership to support the AMC’s public service efforts.
  • Implement energy conservation and environmentally sound practices in daily operations
  • Bake fresh bread daily for trail lunch sandwiches and dinner service. Perfect your hand at sweet treats while keeping the cookie jar full and preparing nightly desserts
  • Provide alternatives for guests with dietary restrictions..
  • Other duties as assigned. This job specification should not be construed to imply that these requirements are the exclusive standards of the position. Incumbents will follow any other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as may be required by their supervisor.

Qualifications

Compensation and benefits:

  • Salary Range: $15.00/ hour
  • FREE room & board on-site at your assigned Wilderness Lodge
  • Free use of AMC Destinations: 4 nights per year
  • Free annual AMC membership
  • Health Plan with Optional Vision + Dental Insurance when working 30+ hours per week for 6+ months
  • Matching 403(b): 4% with vesting schedule
  • Paid Sick Time: eligible to accrue up to 10 days
