IT Help Desk Job Description

Summary/Objective
Provides technical assistance to end users regarding computer hardware and software that include printing, software programs, and operating systems. Answers questions or resolves problems by means of in person, telephone, or virtual support. Forwards complex problems to appropriate staff. Participates in department’s continuous quality improvement activities.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Set up workstations for employees and necessary peripheral devices (routers, printers, etc.)
  2. Check computer hardware (HDD, mouse, keyboards, etc.) to ensure functionality
  3. Install and configure appropriate software and functions according to specifications
  4. Answer end user questions regarding computer software or hardware problems
  5. Effectively and appropriate communicate with team members about issues
  6. Utilize customer service skills to create a pleasant experience with interacting with users
  7. Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment
  8. Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance without deterring others completing their work
  9. Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or place parts, debugging, etc.)

  5. Contributes to the overall functioning of CMC and the department by assisting where and when needed. Functions as a positive team player.
  6. Maintains a clean, safe working environment.
  7. Assists in QI/QA as requested including data collection.
Qualifications/Education/Experience needed for position incl
  1. Required: Degree in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field
  2. Preferred: Certification as IT Technician (CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)
  3. Preferred: 2 years’ experience as IT Technician
