UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENT INTERNSHIPS:
Fall 2023 - Spring 2024
Internships are one of the many ways in which EveryMind is helping to build the next generation of mental health service providers. Internships are available for a semester or the entire school year. All internships are unpaid but may be eligible for school credit. Weekly supervision is provided to interns. The work schedule is flexible; however, the candidate must be able to commit to 15-20 hours per week during business hours. Internships are virtual and in-person, depending on the program's need.
Linkages to Learning
Seeking interns who are energetic and committed individuals. Interns will work closely with staff on various tasks, including program coordination and assistance, outreach, event planning, donor and volunteer management, and administrative duties. The work schedule is flexible. However, candidates must be able to commit to between 10-15 hours per week. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Develop, promote, and implement programs for elementary and middle school-aged children
- Work with a diverse, multicultural population
- Work with immigrant and/or low-income families
- Case management and social service delivery
- Data collection and needs assessments
- Budget management
- Work with a school-based collaboration model
Undergraduate interns typically support the Linkages Community School Coordinator (CSC), who assesses the needs of the school and the surrounding community to identify activities and events that will meet those needs. CSC’s develop programming such as ESOL classes, summer camps, parent coffees, and parent leadership opportunities. They oversee various initiatives to provide school supplies, Thanksgiving dinners, and holiday gifts to families in need, and year-round food and clothing drives.
Case Management Services – Youth
Seeking energetic interns who can work a flexible schedule and enjoy working youth. Students in counseling, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or sociology are the best fit. Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are preferred but not required. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Provide presentations to youth and/or parents on violence prevention topics
- Design and implement group activities for elementary school-aged youth
- Co-facilitate psychoeducational group for at-risk youth ages 12-18
- Provide case management services for youth involved with the juvenile justice system
- Assist with research and data collection and analysis
- Develop service-learning curriculums to be implemented with youth ages 12-18
Serving Together
Seeking an intern interested in helping to connect military, veterans, and their families to needed community resources such as education, economic, housing, and mental health through individualized assistance from a fellow veteran and a comprehensive online community. Serving Together also educates mental health professionals, nonprofits, and the local community at large on the unique needs of the area’s military and veterans and how to help them most effectively. Interns work closely with Serving Together staff members and are an essential part of the work we are able to do for the military, veterans, and their families.
The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skill sets:
- Marketing, outreach, communication, and social media efforts
- Increase development and content management for ServingTogetherProject.org
- Planning and implementation of community-provider briefings and forums to build community awareness of the project
- Assistance with the project’s annual continuing education event for mental health professionals in Montgomery County.
- Assisting Peer Navigator staff with intake and referral process.

Human Resources
Seeking interns to gain hands-on experience dealing with day-to-day operations in the HR department. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Gain experience with the recruiting and hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting telephone and in-person interviews, making job offers, and negotiating starting salaries
- Understand employee benefits management issues related to plan renewal and open enrollment, benefits enrollment and termination, troubleshooting employee benefits issues, and the customer
- Importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management
- Complete special projects such as salary surveys, job descriptions, designing policies, and staff training
This is a great opportunity for students who are eager to learn and are interested in working in a nonprofit setting. Applicants should be currently enrolled in an HR-related program with some general HR knowledge.
Finance
Seeking interns to gain hands-on experience dealing with day-to-day operations in the Finance department. This is a great opportunity for students who are eager to learn and are interested in working in a nonprofit setting. Applicants should be currently enrolled in Accounting or Finance-related program with some general Accounting knowledge. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Gain experience in accounts payable and other finance office support functions
- Work under the direct supervision of the Finance Director and coordination with the Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant
- Gain experience in bank reconciliation, electronic and paper file maintenance, excel worksheets, and data entry.
Development and Communications
Seeking an intern to assist with various development, marketing, and communications functions, including data entry and maintenance, social media, research, website management, blogging, and outreach. Students pursuing a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing preferred with an interest in mental health. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Assist in managing social media accounts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram)
- Assist with day-to-day website management on WordPress
- Monitor news
- Research
- Assist with guest blogger recruitment
- Write blog posts
- Assist with collecting stories and pictures for marketing materials
- Database maintenance and list management
Education and Advocacy
Seeking an intern to join the Education and Advocacy Department. The Education intern will work on community outreach, presentation development, strengthening community partnerships, and provide overall support to EveryMind’s education department. The ideal candidate will have a high level of organization and attention to detail, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and an interest in mental health and wellness education. The internship will provide an opportunity to develop the following skill sets:
- Scheduling and organizing community education training and events
- Outreach to local community members and organizations on mental health and wellness topics
- Building relationships with community mental health organizations
- Advocating for mental health awareness by promoting the principles of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
- Evaluating community education programs
- Additional duties as assigned, based on the individual’s interests and skillset
GRADUATE STUDENTS ONLY
Counseling Services – Adult
Seeking an advanced social work or counseling intern who is bilingual in Spanish to provide clinical mental health services to Spanish speaking immigrants who are low-income, uninsured, and newly arrived to the United States. Many clients have experienced severe trauma and issues around family separation and reunification, grief, and loss. Services are provided at EveryMind’s main offices in Rockville, MD. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Opportunity to work with licensed mental health professionals
- Conduct client assessments
- Maintain ongoing contact with clients
- Provide individual or family therapy
- Provide case management
- Assist with materials, research, and outreach
Counseling Services – Youth
Seeking interns in social work or counseling to provide early intervention and prevention mental health services to low-income youth and families and group therapy in area schools. Interns will have the opportunity to work with youth ages 5-18 and their families in an office-based setting. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Opportunity to work with a licensed mental health professional to provide case management
- Maintain ongoing contact with clients
- Provide individual or family therapy
- Facilitate school-based groups for local elementary, middle, and high schools
- Assist with materials, research, and outreach
- Receive clinical supervision
Linkages to Learning
Seeking interns in social work, marriage and family therapy, or counseling psychology programs. Linkages to Learning is a community school partnership with an integrated focus on health, social services, community development, and engagement to support student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred. The internship will provide interns with an opportunity to develop the following skills:
- Opportunity to provide individual counseling to children and adolescents as well as family counseling
- Opportunity to facilitate groups in school-based settings
- Weekly clinical supervision and bi-monthly group consultation
