Position Description:

HIAS Pennsylvania is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and highly skilled Accountant to be part of the growing Finance Department. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a non-profit sector with additional experience with government grants. This is a new position for HIAS Pennsylvania (Agency). As an integral member of the Finance team Accountant II will provide support to Agency financial operations, Development and Social Services Departments. Training will be provided. 


Essential Functions:

  1. Review financial requests to process cash, check, and credit card payments. 

  2. Responsible for Account Payables, Account Receivables, bill payment functions, and bookkeeper’s bank reconciliation to ensure Agency’s financial responsibilities are successfully conducted.

  3. Work with the Finance team to prepare monthly financial reports, which summarize and forecast Agency’s  business activities and financial performance in areas of revenue, expenses, and cash flow based on past, present, and future operations.  

  4. Work with Finance team and the program managers to create, review, and timely submit invoices and grant reports to the funders in accordance with the grant funding requirements.   

  5. Work with the Finance team to assist auditor on Agency's annual audit and Forms 990 and A-133. 

  6. Manage check deposits, create and maintain the daily cash log, compare to reconciliation schedule and review for correct postings. 

  7. Assist HR department in reviewing payroll and benefits expenses, as needed.

  8. Work with the Development team on grant proposal budgets, grant spend-down tracking, grant invoicing, and financial reporting.

  9. Work closely with Grants Manager and program staff on the financial aspects for proposals and grants. This includes creating program and project budgets, providing financial spending data for reports, and ensuring regular reconciliation with grant and contract budgets.  

  10. Assist with providing financial data for funder monitoring and government audits. 

  11. Participate in Agency finance, funders, Programs meetings and trainings, as needed.

  12. Other finance job duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration from an accredited institution. Master’s degree or CPA a plus. 

  • Minimum of five (5) years of non-profit accounting experience that includes government grant and sub grant accounting, compliance, creating grant budgets, invoices and financial reports to grantors. A solid understanding of cost allocation for different cost centers, a great plus.

  • Advanced skills in QuickBooks and Excel required. 

  • Meticulous attention to detail, well organized, focused on problem-solving, and willing to be trained.
