Job Summary 

The Lead Medical Assistant will provide physician and medical assistants support to ensure the clinic operates smoothly in providing patient care. They are responsible for administrative as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, order supplies and performing front-desk tasks as needed. Essential responsibilities consist of but are not all inclusive: 

 

  • Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility in the Lead Medical Assistant role.  

  • Takes actions based on constructive performance evaluations- assist with staff development.  

  • Assist with chart review for completeness.  

  • Assist with competency training for new hires 

  • Responsible for keeping inventory and placing orders. (e.g. vaccines, clinic supplies) 

  • Ensures that Autoclave maintenance is done daily/monthly.  

  • Ensure that Quality Control is done daily or as required.  

  • Serves as mentor for staff and new hires.   

  • Communicate with the clinical director and/or nurse manager if problems arise with the Medical Assistants.  

  • Assist with Medical Assistant work schedules.  

  • Phlebotomy/Venipuncture 

  • Medication administration as ordered by provider (e.g. PO, IM, ID, Subq, Inhalant, Topical)  

  • Assist with Minor Procedures (Minor Wound Care, Suture and Staple Removal, etc.) 

  • Assist with in-room diagnostic testing (X-Ray, US, etc.) 

  • Vitals including weight, height, BMI and waist circumference. 

  • Update Patient Medical History 

  • Chief Complaints and recent changes to mental, social, physical health 

  • Gap Closure (Foot Exam, DRE, etc.) 

  • Review provider orders with patient 

  • Review referrals with patient 

  • Review normal/stable labs or diagnostic tests with patient and forward any concerns to provider 

  • Remote Patient Monitoring Support 

  • Reinforcing understanding and adherence to care plan 

  • Respond to patient calls/messages same day 

  • Collaborate with Medical Assistants, Transitions of Care Team, Chronic Care Team, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team for continuity of care 

  • Attends all morning huddles (for different pods) and high-risk huddles.  

  • Other duties assigned by provider 

Qualifications

 

Education Requirements 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 

  • Certification or Registration with CCMA, CMA, RMA, or NCMA 

  • Experience with EMR (electronic medical records), medical terminology 

  • Previous experience in specific medical field preferred

Physical Demands 

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time, stand, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment; must be able to operate a motor vehicle. When representing Suvida Healthcare at external events, the Lead Medical Assistant is also required to stand for prolonged periods of time, kneel, crouch, bend and lift, and must be able to move up to 30 pounds.
