Applications are being accepted for a full-time Area Curator: Birds and Ectotherms.
The Area Curator oversees animal management, team leadership, and operations in Aquatics, Indonesia, and Africa Birds & Hoofstock sections as well as animal management for all birds and ectothermic animals at the zoo. This position also represents the zoo for ectotherms and birds through IR, TAG, and SSP programs and leadership roles. The Area Curator works in partnership with the Behavior Management Curator for welfare, enrichment, and operant conditioning as well as with the second Area Curator and section supervisors in the management of birds and ectotherms in their sections.
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field, five years of zoo experience, and two years of supervisory experience are required. The successful candidate will also have a demonstrated knowledge of the care and management of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, and terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates; knowledge of aquatic life support systems; knowledge of animal welfare, enrichment, and operant conditioning; and knowledge of the care of a variety of mammal species. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring availability for at least a 40-hour work week year-round.
