Job Summary: The Morning CARE Counselor is responsible for implementing and supervising school-age children in a before care setting. The Morning CARE Counselor plays a key role in ensuring that program participants have a safe, supportive, fun, interactive experience at their home schools before they attend class.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, supportive, interactive and engaging environment for youth
  • Positively interact with youth, parents/guardians and other team members to create a respectful, warm, supportive environment
  • Maintain accurate attendance, instructional and other records as necessary
  • Communicate with parents during drop off
  • Communicate consistently with supervisors and other team leaders
  • Ensure compliance with established rules and regulations to ensure safety
  • Keep assigned areas clean and sanitized as needed
  • Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Obey the practical safety rules, regulations and procedures established by the Safety Committee, attend and participate in required safety trainings
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

  • Ability to lead daily activities including but not limited to snack, homework help, arts & crafts, various games
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and effective manner

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to take initiative and use good judgement in responding to situations that arise
  • Ability to take direction and adapt to the work environment

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Experience working with children is preferred

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Exposure to cleaning and disinfecting supplies
  • Must be able to lift and/or move 25 pounds
  • Frequently required to stand and walk
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance
  • The noise in the work environment is generally moderate to loud

Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification on an annual basis provided by the Wilmette Park District
