Why this role matters:

Our event technicians work events in the Kreeger Auditorium and other venues as assigned at the Bender JCC. This position is essential to the success of events at the Bender JCC, working behind the scenes to ensure that everything runs smoothly at each event. Event technicians are responsible for managing all production processes, front of house duties, client relations with renters, and equipment operation, training, and maintenance.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Preserve the safety of patrons, staff, and participants in all Center programs, partner programs, and rentals.
  • Be the primary point of contact with Kreeger Auditorium programmers and other presenters.
  • Serve as primary or secondary technician for client events.
  • Serve as a production assistant to the Technical Manager, and work alongside Facility staff in the areas of event staging, lighting, sound, and audio/visual presentation for Center programs and rentals.
  • Perform minor front of house responsibilities, including, but not limited to: crowd control, ushering, ticket taking, etc.
  • Maintain and preserve the equipment and facility of the Center in the areas to which assigned.
  • Participate in other setup and staging roles as needed at the Center, including but not limited to: setting up tables and chairs, presentation furnishings (podia, lecterns, etc.)
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned.

You have:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. off the floor in a dead lift to waist height and hold it for 60 seconds. Ability to lift 25 lbs. overhead and hold for 60 seconds.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and securely work at heights up to or exceeding 35 ft. Must disclose any condition that would prohibit safe and secure performance at heights up to or exceeding 35 ft.
  • Ability to work in an environment of sustained 100db loudness (A- weighted and measured on a fast-setting gauge.)
  • Due to the nature of the job, shifts may be during or outside normal business hours and may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • This position will typically be scheduled in advance, however, due to changing needs of programs, you may be asked to work with shorter notice.
  • General knowledge of stage and event safety, stage lighting protocols and safety, event technology background. General stagecraft.
  • Computer literacy and experience working with Apple computers and iOS devices. A background in programming for the ION is very helpful, as is FOH experience on digital audio consoles.
  • Ability to use software required, including: Powerpoint, Q-Lab, iTunes, GarageBand, Audacity. ETC Eos/lON family programming and offline editor. Yamaha LS9, TF Family, programming and offline editor.
  • Academic training from a college-level program in a related field (such as General Theatre, Stage Technology, or a similar academic track) or at least 5 years' experience in stage or event production.
  • Required COVID-19 vaccination

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with an hourly rate of $20. This position includes an individual membership to the Bender JCC, including complete access to the entire fitness facility and pools.
