General Statement:

The Fleet Science Center's Building Maintnenace Technician supports the Fleet Mission and Visitor Experience philosophy by performing general maintenance, repairs and preventive maintenance throughout the building. In addition, this individual is responsible for providing support to all department and visitor needs throughout the facility.

This is a part time position (20-25 hours per week), ideally working a Sunday-Thursday schedule.

Reports to: Engineering Director / Building Technical Supervisor

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

1. Repair or replace facility equipment and provide technical support for all building systems.
2. Monitor facility equipment and Fleet vehicles as required to ensure equipment performance and reliability.
3. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance and maintain an active parts inventory.
4. Manage and track all work orders. Work with supervisors on any assistance or clarification that may be needed.
5. Assist in building renovations as assigned.
6. Assist with the installation and dismantling of traveling and permanent exhibitions as needed per supervisor approval.
7. Act as a back up to the Exhibits Technician as needed, per supervisor approval.
8. Responsible for E Waste, bulb and battery recycling and stocking of safety supplies / equipment.
9. Research and provide ideas for facility improvements, parts and projects.
10. Provide feedback to create better processes for the department.
11. Must be able to work independently and balance workload, weekly check in with supervisor to monitor workload.
12. Responsible for clean organized workshops and corridor.
13. Be knowledgeable of safety and emergency procedures.

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

• Two years mechanical and electrical technician experience working with the above listed tools and equipment.
• General knowledge of tools.
• Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge preferred. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
• Demonstrated fabrication ability in wood, acrylic, laminate, metals and other media.
• Familiarly with LEED, sustainability, and “green” culture a plus.
• Proven ability to work independently, multi-task effectively, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proven organizational, recordkeeping and inventory management skills.
• Proven attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone, in person and in writing a must.
• Ability to perform mathematical operations as needed for position.
• Familiarly with Science Center exhibits preferred. 

Physical Requirements of this Position:

Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force, frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force and occasionally up to 100 pounds of force to move objects.

This position requires physical presence at the business location during all assigned working hours in order to adequately perform all duties.
