Description

The Fleet Science Center’s Custodial Supervisor supports the Fleet’s Mission and Visitor Experience Philosophy by overseeing the janitorial services (cleaning and maintenance) of the entire Science Center building, including carpets, bathrooms, lighting, hardware, etc.

Reports to:  Director of Engineering and Facilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities, including mental requirements of position:

  1. Responsible for all aspects of custodial staff scheduling, including allocating hours and duties, rescheduling, and coverage due to call outs, etc.
  2. Responsible for recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new Custodians.
  3. Responsible for inventory and ordering of all janitorial supplies.
  4. Responsible for allocating workloads based on daily and special event operations.
  5. Responsible for continuing greening efforts throughout the facility.
  6. Responsible for training staff on facility cleaning and floor maintenance.
  7. Works with Director of Engineering on facility improvements.
  8. Coordinates with vendors as needed to maintain a clean and safe facility, including special projects.
  9. Responsible for scheduling deep cleaning of areas as needed.
  10. Responsible to be knowledgeable of safety and emergency plan manual procedures.
  11. Collaborates with the Custodial and larger Engineering teams to achieve common goals.
  12. Additional duties as assigned by Director of Engineering.

Qualifications

Experience, education, or skills required of the incumbent in this position:

  • Minimum of one year experience in a supervisory position with a customer service focus.
  • Familiarity with best practices regarding facility cleaning and maintenance, including infection prevention controls related to the COVID 19 pandemic.
  • Knowledge of Balboa Park, San Diego attractions, and the Fleet Science Center extremely helpful.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patrons and staff, both in person and over the phone or e-mail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and familiarity with online scheduling and timekeeping software programs preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements of this Position:

Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.

This position requires physical presence at the business location during all assigned working hours in order to adequately perform all duties.
