Summary of Position:
Instructors are responsible for bringing physical sciences and astronomy concepts to life through hands-on, experiential education classes and activities during 3-5 day school programs. Instructors will maintain the high quality of our program by following established curriculum and set policies. Instructors will also be responsible for helping maintain program equipment and ensuring student safety.
Specific Responsibilities (Examples of Duties):
- Implement the Educational Program curriculum and related programs, as outlined by the Program Director. Instructor Description 1
- Ensure all programs are conducted in accordance with the policies set by Guided Discoveries emphasizing safety.
- Development of necessary educational and instructional background to ensure quality of the program.
- Attend and participate in all leadership and instruction sessions scheduled by the Program Director.
- Assume role of Program Coordinator for groups when assigned.
- Work evening programs to meet group’s needs.
- Generate ongoing enthusiasm and participation in student activities.
- Assist with recreation groups as required.
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director.
- Must be able to communicate and work with the student groups by teaching all aspects of the program including labs, hikes, and adventure activities.
- Must be able to hike several miles along dirt trails including steep inclines.
- Lift, carry and move heavy objects up to 50 lbs. when necessary.
- Be able to respond to emergency situations by providing the leadership necessary to enact the appropriate Emergency Procedure Plan.
- Abilities to observe student and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, and enforce appropriate behavior.
- Understanding of the Hazard Communication Plan and MSDS forms as well as other GD Safety Program including but not limited to Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Spaces, Respirators and Blood borne Pathogens.
- Ability to drive company vehicles. (Only necessary if checked out for driving)
- Assist with marketing efforts by attending camp fairs and school shows.
- Help prepare and present information regarding camp’s programs to teacher’s and administrators.
- Help produce social media content to be used by our coordinator to promote camp.
- Work on specific projects to help develop teaching tools and demonstrations in camp.
- Represent and promote camp in our local community through involvement in local events.
- Full meals in the Dining Hall when kitchen is in operation.
