REPORTS TO:              Dean of Enrollment Management

FLSA STATUS:             Full-time, Non-exempt

SALARY:                        $33.50/hr.

 

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for recruiting applicants and supporting them throughout the application process. Counselors will identify prospective students through their attendance at transfer and graduate college fairs to build the prospect and inquiry pool. Also, the counselor will have a section of the applicant pool that they will be charged with promptly processing, completing admissions files, reviewing application materials for presentation to academic decision-makers for graduate programs, and making decisions for students applying to undergraduate programs. They support the compliance of all admissions policies and procedures and work toward meeting enrollment targets for fall, spring, and summer semesters in an academic year. This role requires ongoing contact with applicants and extensive knowledge of university admission requirements for each program. The incumbent is responsible for recruiting students, processing applications in a timely manner to achieve a high enrollment yield rate, and providing support to auxiliary programs associated with the new student program, including, but not exclusive to, the enrollment alumni network, off-campus programming, on-campus programming, and managing student volunteers. While not expected to have expertise in these areas, counselors should have a basic knowledge of financial aid practices and policies, the registration process, academic support programs on campus, and the core values of NDNU.   

 

NDNU seeks a goal-driven candidate with strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. This person must have professional acumen and care about the experience of a future NDNU student. After a 6-month probationary period, the candidate will be eligible for Tuition Remission should they decide to pursue a program at the institution.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to: 

 

  • Communicates primarily with applicants, admitted, and enrolled students via email, telephone, text, and through various virtual mediums to complete the admissions application, but
  • Supports inquiries and informs prospective applicants of NDNU's program offerings and admissions process
  • Manages at least one support activity associated with student recruitment
  • Attends recruitment activities on and off campus to inform prospective students about the programs available to them
  • Coordinates efforts with program directors for a quick rate of return to render a final admissions decision
  • Promptly communicates admissions decisions to applicants
  • Follow up with admitted students to encourage enrollment
  • Supports recruitment efforts as needed
  • Provides University and program-specific information to inquiries/applicants
  • Fosters and develops relationships with inquiries/applicants to optimize program fit and convert applicants to enrolled students
  • Maintains a high-level understanding of program requirements and admissions criteria
  • Works collaboratively to analyze admissions trends and implements target strategies to improve apply/admit/enroll statuses
  • Works closely with admissions team members to achieve a seamless admission process
  • Evening and weekend work is expected periodically, and advance notice is expected of the incumbent when they will not be available.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned

 

 

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND EDUCATION

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Minimum two years experience in student recruitment at the college or secondary level or sales services experience, and has a track record of converting applicants to enrolled students.
  • Success working with individuals and groups representing a wide range of diverse cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of the admissions process at a university, strategies, and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, interact, and communicate (verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with staff, faculty, and students
  • Attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player, managing confidential matters with discretion
  • Skilled at accomplishing tasks with specific deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM
  • Ability to analyze admissions funnel data as part of achieving a high enrollment yield rate
  • Focus, participation, and commitment to the goals of the department
  • Willingness and flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
