Development & Marketing Manager, Southern Nevada

Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities through sports, education, and athlete health. We are a nonprofit organization offering free year-round training and competition programs for 3,253 athletes who compete in more than 60 competitions in 10 sports annually. SONV’s mission is to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities through Health and Wellness events, offering screenings and services free of charge

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as “Guardians of the Flame”, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics state, provincial, national, regional and world games. Annually, nearly 110,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity, uniting communities around the globe.

Position Summary:  Reporting to SONV’s Southern Nevada Development Director, the Development & Marketing Manager will identify and secure corporate partners, individual donors, and foundations to financially support the organization’s programs and events. This position will also grow, manage and support SONV’s partnership with local law enforcement agencies that participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). LETR fundraises on behalf of SONV, participates in athlete recognition opportunities and helps expand awareness of SONV’s mission.


Responsibilities/ Essential Functions:

  • Execute development and marketing activities that support the mission of LETR and SONV.
  • Facilitate project goals and objectives as the organization launches programs and events.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute LETR events to increase revenue.
  • Support SONV staff with larger development events and administrative needs.
  • Grow, manage and support SONV’s partnership with local law enforcement agencies, volunteers, and sponsors.
  • Provide support with the organization’s grant writing process.
  • Plan and oversee event logistics while working directly with SONV athletes.
  • Manage fundraising campaigns, deliverables, objectives, and timelines to the Southern Nevada Development Director.
  • Assist with event messaging via social media, collateral & materials procurement.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or related experience working for a nonprofit organization.
  • A passion for the organization’s mission of inclusion for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Must be a detail-oriented, highly organized self-starter, capable of taking direction but working independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Able to regularly exercise discretion, critical thinking, and independent judgement to achieve the organization’s goals.
  • Proven skills with proofreading and editing documents.
  • Demonstrated experience with planning and executing events.
  • Experience working with volunteers and people with disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities to meet objectives and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong networking and presentation skills.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule, including willingness to work occasional nights and weekends as needed.

This is an exempt position which requires some travel to Northern Nevada to support programs and events.
