Quality Assurance Engineer

Position Overview:

The Quality Assurance Engineer position impacts many aspects of the development process from defining the testing strategy, building test cases, code testing, documenting, all the way to software maintenance. The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for both automated and manual tests of Nebraska Book Company applications. The ultimate goal of testing software is to help the organization identify bugs before they reach the end-user, but this role is also responsible for sharing ideas on how to make the software more user friendly and more effective for the business. They are a strategic bridge between the development team and the end users. This is an exempt, non-supervisory position, reporting directly to the Software Engineer Manager. The Quality Assurance Engineer position is based in Lincoln, Nebraska and would require relocation. 

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Testing and inspecting new updates to software systems
  • Testing internal and partner systems end to end
  • Creating, executing, and analyzing quality-reporting measures
  • Creating and maintaining test plans, acceptance criteria, and regression test suites
  • Reporting to management on quality issues, trends, and losses
  • Analyzing business problems and developing test plans and solutions to resolve these problems
  • Collecting, tracking, and analyzing quality metrics on how to improve performance
  • Preparing for sprint planning by understanding the details (effort, risk, priority) of remaining work committed for an update
  • Participating in planning sessions; analyzing requirements and helping with defining acceptance criteria for features being developed
  • Analyzing, responding, and remediating team members reported incidents via a queue
  • Assisting engineering in defining development and testing tasks
  • Working with end-users and SMEs with new releases
  • Helping product owner conduct release management and appropriately documenting
  • Contributing ideas for continually improving teams productivity
  • Maintaining and deploying builds to the QA environment
  • Complying with all company personnel policies and practices as well as all federal, state, and local standards/requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong analytic and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability and desire to problem-solve, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to both internal and external teams in relevant business terms
  • Strategic mindset, seeing beyond what is right in front of them and understanding how it can or may impact the broader business

 

Experience/knowledge:

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with quality-assurance applications
  • Experience in GUI testing, security testing, regression testing, black-box testing, etc.
