General Purpose:

 

The Mountain Manager is responsible for partnering with MCP Leaders to align the resort with the vision of Mountain Capital Partners.  The Mountain Manager will be fully engaged in all aspects of the resort's day to day operations ensuring successful management of the ski area operations.

 

Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:

 

  • Live MCP’s mission, vision, and culture of growing the sport of skiing and giving people the freedom to ski

  • Work with MCP Leaders to execute the long term vision for the growth and expansion of the resort

  • Management and execution of Capital Improvement Projects

  • Oversight and leadership of Mountain Operations departments: Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance, Grooming, Snowmaking, Ski Patrol and Vehicle Maintenance

  • Assemble a mountain operations team at Sandia Peak that can support the vision and strategic plan for the resort

  • Mentor and develop the team enabling them to take on more responsibility and move up to new roles.

  • Effectively supervise all areas of the team including coaching, counseling and disciplinary action as necessary.

  • Partner with senior resort leaders to set yearly goals for departments that align with overall resort goals, and develop KPIs to measure success in achieving those goals

  • Develop budgets and set operating plans that align with departmental and resort goals

  • Be knowledgeable in all areas of resort operations, and provide hands-on expertise.

  • Monitor employee and team performance ensuring that all company policies and procedures are followed, all company equipment is being operated in a safe and responsible manner.

  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures that reduce liability and create efficiencies

  • Ensures OSHA and ANSI-B77 standards are in compliance





 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  • Oversee timely and accurate reporting of all local, state and federal regulatory compliance requirements

  • Performing day-to-day administrative tasks as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

 

Education or Formal Training: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, management, or a relevant experience

 

Experience:

 

  • Leadership experience within the ski industry

  • Hands on leadership expertise in at least two areas of ski area operations such as lift operations, lift maintenance, trails/grooming, snowmaking, patrol, terrain park, vehicle maintenance

  • Experience managing capital projects in a ski resort setting

  • Basic knowledge of machinery operations

  • Ability to read a P&L and adhere to a budget


 

 

Working Environment/ Physical Activities:   An average of 35% of the workday is spent indoors in an office environment and 65% is spent outdoors in constantly changing weather conditions.  These percentages are an average.  They will fluctuate depending on the time of year.  75% of the workday is spent sitting, 15% is spent standing and 10% is spent walking.  These percentages are an average.  They will fluctuate depending on the time of year.  Lifting, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 100 pounds.  Occasionally carrying objects up to 50 pounds.  Constantly using hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color and field of vision.  Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling and feeling.  Occasional exposure to fumes odors and gases.  Occasional exposure to mechanical hazards.  Occasional exposure to electrical, high exposed worksite and burns.
