Bennett Thrasher (“BT”) has an opening for a SALT Staff to provide critical assistance in addressing clients’ state and local tax issues. To do so, a SALT staff must be able to research state and local tax laws, write memorandums summarizing and applying the laws, prepare tax exposure or planning spreadsheets, as well as discuss the relevant issues internally and with clients.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop effective working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Collaborate with others to provide quality service to clients
  • Communicate professionally with clients under supervision of managers and seniors
  • Maintain a current knowledge of applicable state laws
  • Translate verbose tax laws and regulations into digestible, client-facing content
  • Research state and local tax laws, regulations, or other authoritative guidance
  • Calculate estimated state tax exposure using Excel; and provide accurate research and write technical memorandum in a concise, analytical format
  • Build and maintain positive relationships across the firm
  • Support interns and non-state tax staff in professional development
  • Contribute and support new ideas
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding projects progress and deadlines
  • Actively seeks training and developmental opportunities
  • Utilizes computer applications and relevant technology effectively

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required, CPA or JD preferred
  • Basic knowledge of state taxation
  • Strong commitment to professional and client service excellence
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple engagements simultaneously
