General Qualifications

The Lifeguard is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs.  They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Position Objective

Lifeguards provide instruction, supervision, and ensure the safety and well-being of all guests  and staff involved in all water-based activities at MHA in a professional and productive manner consistent with MHA’s vision and values.

Key Job Accountabilities           

  • Act as a first responder in events of injury as well as document incidents and injuries.
  • Provide a safe environment (physically, mentally, and emotionally) for guests to enjoy aquatic activities.
  • Provide supervision of aquatic activities at MHA including, but not limited to, all 3 pool sites and the boating area.
  • Accountable for upholding and enforcing pool rules to ensure safety of all using the pool.
  • Assist Supervisor and other lifeguards with daily, weekly, and monthly pool maintenance and chemical testing.
  • Maintain, document and report any damage to operating equipment and facilities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licenses:

  • Must have current Lifeguard / CPR / First Aid Certifications prior to start date.  
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training preferred but not required.

Work Experience

  • Prior lifeguard experience is preferred.
  • Experience teaching youth and young adults new skills and managing risk in an aquatics setting.

  • Ability to work with a team with good judgment and decision making abilities.
  • Punctual and responsible.
  • Exhibits great interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers. 
  • A heart to serve where needed and maintain an attitude of flexibility.  
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Observant and attentive over long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all applicable lifesaving techniques.
  • Maintain excellent physical fitness and rescue and skill performance.

Physical Demands

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Requirements/Skills

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
