Description and Qualifications

The Donor Family Aftercare Assistant provides support to the Donor Family Aftercare team by meeting the needs of programs regarding post-donor case bereavement support to donor families.

General Responsibilities

  • Become knowledgeable about organ, eye, and tissue donation and transplantation.
  • Provide bereavement and grief resources to families.
  • Facilitate correspondence between donor families and recipients.
  • Participate with the execution of donor family events.
  • Help with the planning of special projects for donor families.
  • Close collaboration with the Donor Family Aftercare Specialist and Donor Family Aftercare Coordinator.
  • Adhere to quality standards and legal compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies (AOPO, OPTN, CMS, etc.).

Bereavement Support

  • Delivers grief and bereavement support for LifeCenter Northwest (LifeCenter) donor families.
  • Assistance with all post-donor case family follow-up, including but not limited to: required mailings, phone calls, written correspondence, answering donor family questions, etc. 
  • Ensures donor families have accurate, real-time access to information about bereavement support via our external website, printed collateral, email, and over the phone.
  • Facilitates donor family and transplant recipient communication in collaboration with transplant centers and other Organ Procurement Organizations, ensuring timely response to requests, and quality documentation.
  • Provides support to the Donor Family Aftercare Specialist and Coordinator with required mailings to ensure that they are timely and accurately delivered to donor families.
  • Provides support to the Donor Family Aftercare team on the execution of donor family events.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of all family support interactions including, but not limited to, iTransplant.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
  • Relevant work experience can be considered and substituted for academic requirements.
  • Experience in grief and bereavement is preferred (e.g. counseling, chaplaincy, social work, etc.).
  • Experience in a healthcare environment or related field is preferred.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and access to an insured automobile or the ability to arrive and depart from work and work-related functions at expected times.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster, or applicable medical or religious exemption will be required as a condition of employment upon offer. For those that need to complete the vaccination series, start dates will be adjusted.

This position is eligible for additional compensation to the base pay rate in the form of overtime.
