Scholars Unlimited is a community-based non-profit program helping young learners master critical literacy skills. Our mission is to foster academic, social, and emotional growth for children living in metro Denver communities. Our after-school program is geared toward grades K-5 and includes reading, SEL, STEM, and recreation/enrichment components. These programs are educational, engaging, and effective.

 

We are currently recruiting Youth Development Instructors for our after-school session during the 2023-2024 school year. Youth Development Instructors will work with students at our partner school sites to plan and implement enrichment projects, and recreation activities. Scholars Unlimited program will start September 5, 2023, and end May 10, 2024. The program will be held in our partner schools in Northeast Denver, Southwest Denver, Central Denver, North Aurora, Sheridan, and Westminster. Hours of the program will vary with the school's dismissal bell times. Typically the hours may start as early as 2:00 pm and go as late as 6:00 pm. The Youth development instructor position can work up to 3 hrs. per day with a total of 15 hrs. a week, plus 1 additional hour for planning purposes. 

Responsibilities/ Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Site Director and/or Multi Site Manager Youth Development instructors plan and implement activities for our K-5th grade after school students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the set-up, clean up and preparation of lesson plans and activities for program participants

  • Plan and lead activities for small groups of up to 15 students

  • Implement principles of recreation and project-based education demonstrating age appropriate crafts and activities

  • Help coordinate daily enrichment activities

  • Serve as a role model for students

  • Provide safe, and quality, care to students

  • Responsible for care and safety of participants during program, maintaining a safe environment and notifying supervisor of any hazards/security issues as soon as possible

  • Comply with Division of Early Childcare and Learning Licensing Rules and Regulations

  • Communicate with Scholars Unlimited staff and Site Director

  • Manage multiple tasks for all students in cafeteria, classrooms, gym and other area in the school, as well as off-site centers and field trips

  • Attend all trainings and staff meetings

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age, must have at least 3 months of part-time or equivalent satisfactory and verifiable experience with school-age children (ages 5-12). Volunteer work may also apply. (This can be shown through a letter from a previous employer.) Must be able to complete/attend all paid pieces of training including First Aid and CPR within 30 days of hire date.

Background check and fingerprinting required. 

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to develop and implement project-based units for elementary-age students

  • High School diploma or college-level classes

  • Elementary school experience

  • Able to work scheduled program hours

  • Bilingual in Spanish desired.

  • In good standing with Scholars Unlimited

Compensation: $20.00/hr.
