Eastside Preparatory School is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative Human Resources Specialist to help us fulfill our mission. Who We Are:

Eastside Preparatory School opened its doors with sixteen students in grades six and seven at its present location in September, 2003. Now, with 486 students enrolled in grades five through twelve for the 2019-2020 school year, Eastside Prep has established a permanent campus in Kirkland, WA. Our thinking curriculum is the hallmark of our program, which focuses on teaching students to think like the writers, scientists, historians, artists and mathematicians whose work they study. Job Summary:


Under minimal supervision and in collaboration with the Accounting and HR Manager, is responsible for the administration of day-to-day human resource operations.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Recruitment/Hiring
    • Posts open positions to external websites
    • Assists with scheduling of on-campus interviews
    • Assists with reference checks
    • Assists with employment verifications
    • May interview candidates for staff positions
  • Employee Onboarding
    • Runs background checks for all adults that interact with students
    • Runs driving records for all adult drivers
    • Collects resumes, faculty hiring information etc.
    • Ensures I-9 compliance
    • Arranges tours with Admissions for new hires
    • Puts together a first day and/or week schedule for new hires
    • Coordinates laptop pickup with the tech team
    • Continually evaluates onboarding process
  • Day-to-day Owner of HRIS System
    • Maintains personnel files (audits existing files)
    • Maintains job descriptions (assists with writing job descriptions)
    • Performs annual audit of records
    • Trains employees
  • Payroll support
    • Ensures employees have entered time
    • Teaches hourly employees how to clock in/out
    • Acts as backup for payroll generation
  • Benefits
    • Assists CFO and Accounting/HR Manager in evaluating benefit coverage
    • Manages open enrollment
    • Manages benefit administration
    • Provides ongoing support to employees
    • Owns commuter plan
    • Assists with retirement plan (including audit) as needed
    • Continually evaluates benefit opportunities to ensure EPS remains competitive
  • Compliance
    • Ensures compliance with federal and state statutes/laws
    • Files all necessary federal and state regulatory reports
    • Keeps required posters up to date
    • Keeps the DOT pool in compliance
  • Communicates with managers on staying up to date with staff reviews
  • Partners with school leadership to update/maintain employee handbook
  • Termination
    • Performs termination paperwork and exit interviews
    • Manages COBRA
  • Maintains list of up to date certifications in first aid and CPR
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years HR experience preferred
  • Prior experience with applicant tracking system desired
  • Experience with Paycom a plus


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient at working in a Microsoft Windows 10 environment, using Office (version 2013 or higher); ability to master common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology

  • Ability to work and communicate well with students, parents, faculty, staff, and specialists within the community

  • Flexibility, maturity and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to sit, keyboard and talk on the phone, up to eight hours per day
