The Director of Information Technology serves as a strategic partner, supporting the Firm's leadership team and providing direction and insight into the Firm's technology operations. Engaging with every member of the Firm, harnessing the collective ambitions of the individuals, and translating that into actionable solutions for the success of the Firm will prove both challenging and rewarding. The Director of Information Technology will lead a team that delivers a culture of excellence that enables everyone at JMBM to do their best work.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop technology road map and long/short term departmental goals.
  • Provide project management oversight and coaching for all IT initiatives.
  • Maintain a satisfactory level of technical skill department-wide, by keeping up with current trends and developments related to positions.
  • Ensure end-user involvement in technology decisions.
  • Manage vendor/consultant contracts and vendor/consultant service engagements for all technology and systems used by the Firm.
  • Manage complex software licensing and maintenance agreements.

Infrastructure & Security

The Director of Technology is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting the network infrastructure, applications and all other related technologies (physical, virtual and cloud) throughout the organization. Knowledge and experience with the following systems is preferred:

  • Virtualization – VMware vSphere 6 or newer
  • Storage (SAN) – Block & File
  • Networking - Firewalls, Switching, Wireless, MPLS, SD-WAN
  • Public and Private Cloud technologies – Azure, AWS and VMware on AWS
  • Data Protection – Backup, BCDR, and Replication technologies
  • Active Directory – AD DS, DNS, DHCP, GPO
  • Messaging – Exchange (2013 or newer), Office 365, Spam/Content filtering
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) Solutions and Mobile Endpoint Protection
  • Automation technologies – SCCM, Powershell, etc.
  • Monitoring of all firm’s systems inclusive of virtualization, networking, storage, and systems applications
  • Datacenter Operations – Planning and execution of Co-located datacenters.

 

Applications/Desktop & User Support Services

The Director of Technology is responsible for identifying user needs, resolving problems and directing the IT team to provide top quality, consistently available computer service, support, training and maintenance of technology systems; ensuring attorney and staff have the appropriate tools to satisfy their practice needs, perform their duties and serve the Firm’s clients.  Knowledge and experience with the following applications is preferred:

  • DMS – iManage
  • Desktop Applications – MS Office, HotDocs, Workshare, CCC Macro, Nuance, SnagIt
  • Specialty Applications – Relativity, CPI, InterAction
  • Remote Access – VM Horizon
  • Financial Systems – Aderant
  • Telephony – Cisco VoIP

 

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

About the Person

The Director of Technology must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the Firm and must be able to develop productive relationships with attorneys and staff.  Candidates must have the experience and knowledge to engender confidence and respect from the partners and executives.  Candidates must be collaborative by nature and have experience working in a collaborative environment.  He/she must also be an effective leader and mentor to all staff in the IT area.  The successful candidate will have experience developing and implementing major IT changes firm-wide.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of IT support experience in a production environment
  • IT governance certification preferred (ITIL/COBIT)
  • Experience working in a law firm or legal department is preferred
  • Experience leveraging ITIL best practices
  • Experience managing an enterprise Microsoft computing environment, VMware infrastructure, cloud-computing environments (AWS/Azure), and IT change management
  • Experience managing vendors, contracts, and technical consultants
  • Experience using and managing IT incident and problem management solutions

 

Position: Exempt

Location: 5 days onsite until 90-day probation, then Hybrid (Century City).

Salary: $280k - $300k base plus excellent package on offer including insurance and performance-related bonuses. The base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors.

Qualifications

The role

 

As an experienced IT Director, you will be responsible for the overall performance of the Firm's engineering and help desk teams; as well as, managing the IT budget, resources, and vendor relationships. Ideally, you will be comfortable with designing, implementing, and supporting the network infrastructure, applications, and all other related technologies (physical, virtual, and cloud) throughout the organization.

 

The Individual

 

As the ideal candidate, you will have the following skills and experiences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience troubleshooting and using public/private cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, and/or GCP).
  • Real-world experience working with TCP/IP, Firewalls, routing protocols, Linux, and visualization tech (kvm, lxc, etc).
  • A hands-on management approach.
  • 10+ years of IT support experience.

 

Location: 5 days onsite until 90-day probation, then optional 1 day per week remote (Century City)

 

Salary: $230k - $250k base plus excellent package on offer including insurance and performance-related bonuses. The base pay offered will depend upon a variety of factors.
