Job Summary

The Data & Reporting Analyst is the lead for all reporting, visualizing, and analysis of Thread data collected from our community of thousands of students, volunteers, collaborators and staff. Thread uses a data-driven practice to drive day-to-day community connection, goal setting and barrier identification and removal, as well as track continuous improvement of student outcomes. Thread has a mobile app that serves as a user-friendly, front-end platform and captures data in Salesforce, allowing Thread to perform real-time analysis of connections between touchpoints and key organizational outcomes.

The Analyst utilizes technical expertise to ensure Thread’s data is accurate and high-quality. They work independently, while managing all of the program data that Thread gathers about its community. The Analyst is also responsible for using their knowledge of data processing and business development to inform business decisions about how to best serve the Thread community and grow the organization responsibly. Their duties include collaborating with the Data Team to create data visualizations, compile reports based on their findings, and monitoring key metrics to determine the success of business priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Data Reporting

  • Manage and design the reporting environment leveraging Tableau, Salesforce, Python, and Google Sheets to solve the varying reporting needs of the organization

  • Review reports and performance metrics to identify and fix coding errors and related problems

  • Support initiatives for data integrity

  • Develop and maintain automated solutions to consistently and accurately report our key metrics

  • Ensure key metrics can be captured, reported, and progress tracked toward goals in recruitment, relationship management, fundraising, etc.

  • Develop and enforce a clear organization system for report folders in Salesforce.

  • Troubleshooting the reporting database environment and reports.

  • Create and update reporting as needed

  • Train end-users on new reports and dashboards

  • Document necessary reporting maintenance

 

Data Visualization

  • Generate user-friendly weekly and monthly staff reports, as well as quarterly Board and donor reports

  • Create presentations for staff members that include access to the source data, potential interpretations and implications of the data and proposed changes to support improved performance based

  • Instill a sense of accountability to customer and team members towards collective and individual outcomes

  • Create and maintain easy-to-read dashboards in Salesforce to present trends in all business areas to the executive team and Board.

 

Data Analysis

  • Assist team members with discovery of findings to present to program owners and leadership in a way that is useful for decision support, benchmarking, performance tracking and donor cultivation

  • Work with the leadership team to identify opportunities for improvement

  • Develop performance forecasts that map out incremental and sustained progress towards targets with clear timelines and milestones

  • Review and revise the annual staff and board performance metrics to ensure alignment with Thread’s strategic plan and logic model

  • Support the database manager in identifying and revising data structures that will enable the creation of metrics that meet organizational reporting requirements

  • Leverage historic performance data, integrated with real-time context to generate proposed annual targets to the leadership team

  • Advise on and provide independent verification and validation of data management related activities, including data architecture, systems integration, data migration, data quality and data technologies

  • Use statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends in complex data sets that could be helpful for the diagnosis and prediction

  • Assign numerical value to essential business functions so that performance can be assessed and compared over periods of time

  • Other tasks as assigned

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update and create Thread reporting support our front line operations
  • Maintain a high level of quality for Thread reporting responding to direct feedback and ad hoc reporting requirements
  • Instill a sense of accountability to customer and team members towards collective and individual outcomes

Data & Analytics

  • Assist in operationalize project and process management tools and practices
  • Create and update reporting as needed
  • Work with leads across lanes to analyze data and then make tactical suggestions on improvements when needed
  • Act as organizations lead for data management, building and maintaining data management systems and practices and stewarding their continued use
  • Manage data team responsible for accurate and on time preparation of all metrics and scorecards
  • Understand and act upon best practices re: data collection from a systems and business process perspective, as well as how to incorporate data into day-to-day functions so that it drives actions and decisions
  • Support Thread leadership & staff in interpreting and understanding data
  • Develop, implement and provide meaningful reporting and information to all relevant stakeholders, including coordination of reports to Threads Board of Managers

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with excellent / robust technical / technology skills 
  • 3-5 years of experience in data analysis, preferably within the non-profit sector
  • Strong mathematical skills to help collect, measure, organize and analyze data 
  • Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations
  • Technical proficiency regarding database design development, data models, techniques for data mining, and segmentation.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in SQL, Python, Tableau, SalesForce, Google Sheets, and Excel. 
  • ETL: Strong understanding of ETL processes and cloud-based data warehousing.
  • Knowledge of how to create and apply the most accurate algorithms to datasets in order to find solutions 
  • Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases.Adept at queries, writing reports, and making presentations
  • Team-working skills
  • Proven working experience in data analysis
  • Experience with Salesforce is highly preferred; other database experience and the ability, drive and desire to become an expert in Salesforce at the administrator level is required
  • Excellent project management, coordination and backwards planning skills
  • Ability to organize complex tasks and prioritize multiple assignments

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially in the ability to deliver quantitative and qualitative data in a compelling way 

Preferred

  • Experience with Javascript and Google Scripting 
  • Experience in the use of a structured query language in a relational database
  • Strong data management skills and comfort with statistical analyses
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud database platforms such as Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, and Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse
