* * This job is full-time in the summer (May 28 - August 11) and the employee will live on campus at Mount Hermon (room and board are included along with weekly salary). However, we are also asking for 0-10 hours a week leading up to summer (so hire date through May 27th) to help hire summer staff and other Family Ministry items. Those hours do not include housing and the pay will be hourly. 

 

Position Objective:

The Conference Center Chief of Staff works to engage in open communication with Summer Staff, continually provide motivation, and focus on ministry goals, and leadership through example to ensure smooth execution of staff roles, continued staff morale, and open and engaging team dynamics in a manner consistent with MHA’s Mission, Vision, and Values. Note: This position is full-time from late May-mid August, but 0-10 hours per week the rest of the year. 

 

General Qualifications:

The Conference Center Chief of Staff is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats. All staff join into our community life of prayer, worship and spiritual activity, including but not limited to staff meetings, attendance at programs, Bible Study, and staff gatherings.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Provide leadership to summer staff, working with Family Ministries leadership team to provide vision and direction for staff.
  • Provides spiritual and job specific direction to Summer Staff; providing them the opportunity and tools for success through weekly training and intentional mentoring.
  • Responsible to supervise and coach Conference Center Staff Counselors helping provide resources for community develop, spiritual growth, and when needed; conflict resolution to ensure healthy community living.
  • Responsible to capture, document, and communicate stories of camp to provide encouragement and inspiration to staff.
  • Work with Family Ministries Director, Vice President of Programming, and HR to manage, document, and oversee community coaching conversations and personal improvement plans.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises Conference Center Staff Counselors

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate.
  • College experience.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

 

Work Experience:

  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles.
  • Prior or current experience developing and leading large groups or teams.
  • Previous experience at MHA preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Love for youth of all ages is essential; capable of providing strong Christian role model.
  • Ability to work with and lead a team with good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Must be a dynamic individual with a desire to execute program through people with an emphasis on strong relational skills.
  • Comfortable interacting with staff, management at all levels and with guests of all ages.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provideproof of eligibility to work in the United States.
