Scott Family Amazeum Overview

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum in Northwest Arkansas and recognized as a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. Position Summary

The Accounting Manager at the Scott Family Amazeum will report directly to the Chief Business Officer and will oversee the functions of the accounting department which include accounts receivable, accounts payable, taxation, payroll, financial reporting, budgets, record keeping and financial controls. The Accounting Manager will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. They will be ethical, thorough, and attentive with excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Working with the Chief Business Officer to compile, analyze, and report financial data

  • Making journal or ledger entries

  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations

  • Reconciling all point of sale systems to payments

  • Ensuring that company bills are paid and debts are collected

  • Managing the company purchasing card program

  • Preparing monthly/quarterly invoices for grant and exhibit partners 

  • Preparing monthly sales tax reports

  • Preparing and filing annual 1099s  

  • Preparing monthly and yearly financial reports and budgets

  • Leading the annual budget process

  • Working with People Services to process/approve payroll 

  • The accounting point of contact for auditors, internal departments and external parties, including suppliers

  • Using bookkeeping software to enter information into company files or databases, ensuring that all financial records are complete and accurate

  • Identifying, implementing and enforcing financial controls

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field

  • 2+ year experience in accounting/bookkeeping, management, or relevant field 

  • 2+ years experience with accounting software and Microsoft Excel

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office OR Google Office Suites

  • Great attention to detail 

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical practices, and confidentiality 

  • Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration skills 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to spend the majority of their time at work seated, on the phone, and working at a computer

  • Physical stamina to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of at least three feet for materials storage and preparation as appropriate for the demands of the office

  • Ability to manipulate objects with fingers and hands, stand, walk, reach, bend and stretch

  • Ability reading, working at a computer, and processing information 

  • Visual acuity to review written materials 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Not-for-profit accounting experience

  • Experience filing monthly sales tax reports and annual 1099’s

  • Budgeting and forecasting experience

  • Audit preparation experience (experience preparing for and participating in financial audits, including coordinating with auditors and addressing audit findings).

  • Demonstrated familiarity with accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting

  • Knowledge of payroll best practices

  • Tessitura CRM experience

  • Experience engaging with senior level executives, board and/or providing financial reports, insights, and responding to inquiries.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently to drive best practices for accounting function and organization

  • Highly organized 

  • Strong management and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment with shifting demands

  • Ability to think critically
